Background / History
Fang Zheng was born alongside his elder brother, Fang Yuan, in Qing Mao Mountain’s Gu Yue Clan. His A-grade aptitude made him the clan’s foremost prospect, prompting Clan Leader Gu Yue Bo to personally train him as a potential future leader. Fang Zheng, however, initially lacked the political insight Gu Yue Bo wanted him to develop and remained preoccupied with surpassing Fang Yuan. 6 63
After surviving poisoning, Fang Zheng became intensely hardworking. He was the first academy student to attain high-rank Rank 1 and later peak Rank 1 cultivation. 78 80
Under Gu Yue Bo’s instruction, Fang Zheng developed strong fundamentals in evasion, close-range pressure, and Moon Blade combat. He defeated Mo Bei and Chi Cheng in succession, using his superior true-essence reserves and an accurate reading of Chi Cheng’s weaknesses. The victories brought him public recognition and confidence. 83
His final academy match against Fang Yuan shattered that confidence. Fang Yuan read Fang Zheng’s every movement, drove him into panic, and defeated him even after Fang Zheng activated Jade Skin Gu. 84 85
After Qing Mao Mountain’s destruction, Fang Zheng entered Immortal Crane Sect. He cultivated with revenge against Fang Yuan as his central purpose, received guidance from Immortal Master Tian He through a Soul-Hosting Flea, and rose from an overlooked disciple to a Rank 4 mid-stage contender in the sect’s eight-year examination. 335
Fang Zheng commanded tens of thousands of Iron Beak Flying Cranes, led fellow elite disciples during the contest for the Fox Immortal Inheritance, and relied on Tian He’s support while climbing Soul-Shaking Mountain. 336 337 376 389
When Fang Yuan obtained Fox Immortal Blessed Land, the sect ordered Fang Zheng to restrain his revenge and potentially negotiate with his brother. The order devastated him: the blessed land, its resources, and Fang Yuan’s possessions outweighed the value of a single elite disciple in the sect’s calculations. 420
Immortal Crane Sect later elevated Fang Zheng to Rank 5 and made him an elder to support its attempt to seize Fox Immortal Blessed Land. The sect’s favor restored his sense of belonging, though he did not recognize that it followed the higher-ups’ earlier willingness to sacrifice him. 828
Fang Yuan publicly captured Fang Zheng during the Gu Refining Convention and revealed that Immortal Master Tian He had played a role in Qing Mao Mountain’s destruction. Fang Zheng rejected Fang Yuan’s offer of training and renewed his vow to kill him. 843 847
He Fengyang subsequently took Fang Zheng from Fang Yuan under Heavenly Court’s orders and executed him, leaving no body or soul behind. Fang Zheng nevertheless later reappeared in Lang Ya Blessed Land, where Fang Yuan’s will guided him through the oppression and warfare surrounding the human Gu Master. 858 1051 1085
Years of conflict in Lang Ya Blessed Land changed Fang Zheng. He came to understand that survival could require the same ruthlessness Fang Yuan had displayed, though he did not forgive his brother. 1169 1650
With Heavenly Court’s backing, Fang Zheng ascended to immortality through a Blood Dao calamity. He formed an Upper Blessed Land, gained Cold Blood Immortal Gu, and became a prominently cultivated countermeasure against Fang Yuan. 1650 1826
Appearance
As an adult, Fang Zheng is described as broad-shouldered and lean-waisted, with tiger-like eyes and a steady, refined bearing. Earlier in life, his resolute face and sunny presence sharply contrasted Fang Yuan’s colder demeanor. 83 335
- Often wears a grey robe during his later missions. 1689
- His eyes emit crimson light when using Blood Dao methods. 1689
- He manifested emerald jade light over his body while activating Jade Skin Gu. 85
Personality
Fang Zheng began as an earnest, competitive youth who deeply desired recognition and to escape Fang Yuan’s shadow. Praise after his academy victories gave him confidence, while defeat by Fang Yuan left him frightened and humiliated. 83 84
He is diligent, resilient, and capable of humility. Despite commanding a vast crane flock and defeating fellow elite disciples, he openly acknowledged his weakness in crane command and asked others to teach him. 337
His early life was driven by revenge for Qing Mao Mountain. Over time, repeated hardship, betrayal, warfare, and Fang Yuan’s indirect assistance made him more self-aware. He came to understand Fang Yuan’s survival-driven mindset without absolving him of responsibility. 420 1169 1948
By his immortal ascension, Fang Zheng understood that being used by powerful organizations could prove one’s value rather than simply be a humiliation. He became more composed, pragmatic, and aware of Heavenly Court’s purpose in supporting him. 1650
