Background / History

Ma Shilong is a veteran web novelist with multiple pen names and a long record of unfinished works. Though he had talent, a distinctive style, and an established readership, intermittent updates and abandoned novels damaged his reputation; he became known in author circles as a major “abandoned author.” 2 8

His old unfinished novel, My Wife is the Empress of the Zhou Kingdom, was published under a different pen name. Qin Luming obtained Ma's home address through one of his reader groups, where Ma had previously used the address to send physical-book giveaways. 2 19

When Qin visited Ma's suburban home and demanded that he complete the novel, Ma dismissed the notion that fictional characters could be real. Zhou Nan then struck him with the Emperor's Hammer; he lost both breath and heartbeat, appearing dead to Qin. 2 3

Ma was actually reborn as the enormous Big Black Pig near Huangtuliang Dam. He later explained that pig life changed his perspective so completely that he no longer wished to become human again. This acceptance was not natural: Zhou Nan had used the Emperor's Hammer's Enlightenment divine art to alter his values and make him regard the pig form as his true self. 37 38

Zhou Nan brought Ma into her temporary palace and compelled him to continue My Wife is the Empress of the Zhou Kingdom according to her intentions. While serving Zhou Nan as a Black Rider General, Ma led Qin Luming through the dam's hidden barrier under the pretense of rescuing the transformed campers. He then delivered Qin to Zhou Nan as another potential writer for her biography. 38 39

When Zhou Nan decided that both men should write for her, Ma transformed into his pig form and attempted to escape. Zhou Nan captured him with her whip and threw him into the Heavenly Prison. 40

Appearance

Ma is an ordinary-looking, overweight middle-aged man with a round face and a slightly balding head. Following his rebirth, he appears substantially heavier in human form and can transform into the Big Black Pig. 2 36 38
