Background / History
Orson was a 17-year-old transmigrated man when he arrived on Terra, initially expecting an adventurous life in the world of Arknights. Instead, he spent months struggling to survive in an isolated, frozen Ursus village with no extraordinary power or understanding of his location. 1 22
In the village, Orson witnessed the persecution of the Infected and tried to save a young girl. The villagers imprisoned him with the Infected in a granary, where he survived for eight days while the girl died in his arms. He later awoke amid the village’s ruins, where Talula found him surrounded by corpses and initially held a sword to his throat. 1 2
Talula and FrostNova treated Orson as a potential threat because he was Infected and could not explain the destruction around him. Talula nevertheless offered him a chance to live if he could prove useful to the guerrilla force. 2
After being rejected from a mission to revisit his destroyed village, Orson became a temporary teacher for the settlement’s Infected children. His stories and lessons, particularly his belief that power must not change one’s original intentions, earned the trust of Sasha, Ino, and the other children. 3 4
Appearance
Orson is a youthful-looking young man. Although he is 19 by the time he joins Peterheim Middle School, others mistake him for a 15- or 16-year-old and enroll him as a 16-year-old freshman. 22
- Wears high-necked clothing to conceal damage to his throat after the Silence Campaign. 15 18
- Has visible Originium crystals on his shoulder, confirming his Oripathy. 30
- Wears a custom black suit while serving as a Rostov senior security officer. 21
- Uses a virtual vocalizer after losing his natural voice. 42
Personality
Orson is compassionate, impulsive, and stubbornly protective. His inability to save the Infected girl in the granary becomes a lasting source of guilt and drives his determination to protect Infected people and alter the tragic futures he knows from the original timeline. 1 5 47
Despite surviving abuse, imprisonment, combat, and worsening Oripathy, he retains an irreverent sense of humor. He often makes inappropriate jokes, misunderstands social situations, and frustrates his companions, but uses comedy and storytelling to give hope to others. 3 15 31
He is willing to act ruthlessly when necessary, accepting the role of a “necessary evil” to protect Talula, Reunion, and his ideals. However, he consistently avoids killing where possible, including in his encounters with W and the Rostov security forces. 26 28 35
Orson is not naturally intimidating despite his reputation. He considers himself poor at projecting the overwhelming presence possessed by fighters such as Patriot; to most ordinary people, he appears more like a mischievous and approachable young man than a feared combatant. 21
Abilities & Skills
Tuning Originium Arts
Orson perceives the world through musical-score-like “melodies.” His Arts distinguish between black scores associated with physical objects and white scores associated with souls. 6
- Tunes objects by altering their black scores and physical properties. 6
- Can harden, heat, destabilize, or otherwise modify inanimate materials. 12 21
- Cannot directly use the Black Score on living beings. 45
- Excessive Arts use accelerates Originium spread and severely exhausts him. 10 31
Soul Tuning
Soul Tuning allows Orson to interact with white scores—the souls of living beings. 6
- Restores@@REF_ENTITY_3597671@@ from her comatose state. 12
- Enters Talula’s consciousness space and confronts Koschei alongside her. 17
- Reduces his own fatigue through self-tuning. 17
- Carries risks: Orson worries that alterations made through Soul Tuning may affect others if he dies. 17
Rest Note
Rest Note is Orson’s materialized shadow, controlled through Tuning. 12
- Can be hardened with High Octave into a cutting weapon capable of slicing rock. 12
- Blocks explosions and protects allies from attacks. 19
- Infiltrates machinery and causes destructive internal failures, including the self-destruction of a heavy cannon. 41
- Can attach to Orson’s limbs for short-term physical enhancement. 45
Low-Frequency Exploration
Orson can emit and interpret low-frequency vibrations to map an area and identify targets. 18 34
- Detects hidden enemies, moving targets, traps, and enemy placements. 9 26 34
- Creates a colorless three-dimensional mental map from reflected vibrations. 34
- Has unusually strong observation ability, though his trace-erasure and counter-tracking abilities are comparatively ordinary. 26
- Its range and sensitivity weaken when Orson is injured or physically depleted. 11
Resonance Beyond
Orson temporarily places others on a shared frequency band, allowing communication through hostile terrain or conditions. 9
- Lets him communicate directly with Talula during an encounter with Emperor’s Inner Guards. 9
- Forms the basis for Reunion’s encrypted communications network. 14
Combat Training
Orson trains continuously with Reunion’s veterans to compensate for his initially limited combat experience. 17
- Spars with shield guards, FrostNova, and Patriot. 17
- Uses speed, disruption, reconnaissance, and close-quarters tactics rather than direct force against stronger opponents. 16 43
- Fought through Ursus forces during the Rabbit Plan and killed two Inner Guards. 42
- Is recognized as one of Reunion’s highest-level combat forces alongside Patriot. 16
Virtual Vocalizer
After injuries destroy his vocal cords, Orson recreates speech through sound-manipulating Originium Arts. 15 42
- Allows him to communicate after losing his natural voice. 42
- Can project an amplified, charismatic voice to influence and rally soldiers. 44
- Requires continued control of his Originium Arts. 45
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Dagger — carried during his work with the Rostov family and used when confronting W. 19 21
- Anchor Spike and Catalyst — paired, frequency-synchronized devices used for remote audio surveillance. 21
- Encrypted communicators — developed through his object-tuning techniques for Reunion. 14
- Virtual vocalizer — an Originium Arts-based replacement for his damaged vocal cords. 42
- Rostov security uniform and identification — grants him the position of senior security officer. 21
Relationships
- Talula — His rescuer, adoptive elder sister, leader, and closest partner in Soul Tuning. Their relationship develops from mutual suspicion into deep trust and a sibling bond. 2 12 17 32
- FrostNova — Initially distrustful of Orson, she becomes a close comrade. Orson saves her during the Silence Campaign, and she later learns to read his lips after he loses his voice. 2 15 42
- Alina — Orson is drawn to her melody while she is comatose and later restores her through Soul Tuning. 3 12
- Patriot — A formidable mentor and sparring partner who questions Orson’s goals and protects FrostNova. Orson’s growing strength reduces Patriot’s burden in Reunion. 4 16 17
- Ino — Orson’s student and devoted admirer. Orson encourages him to seek redemption by helping others rather than being defined by his past. 12 47
- Sasha — One of Orson’s first students in Reunion; Orson encourages his growth into a steadier and more capable person. 3 16
- Lumen / Natalia Rostov — A Rostov heir whom Orson protects after rescuing her from assassins. Their trust deepens through the Kazimierz City conflict and their shared promise for the future. 18 22 47
- W — Initially attempts to kill Orson, but their hostility develops into an uneasy, occasionally cooperative relationship. 19 26 35
- Isaac — Reunion engineer and ally who assists Orson in Kazimierz City; Orson supports him financially and relies on his technical expertise. 18 26
- Koschei / Black Serpent — An enemy within Talula’s consciousness. Orson repeatedly enters his consciousness space, eventually developing an unusual dynamic with him. 17
- Lumiere / Sonia — A Peterheim classmate who recognizes Orson’s secret identity; he teaches her combat techniques and later works with her to protect the school. 23 28 35
- Hegre — Former Ursus general and Azazel Clinic contact whom Orson tries to recruit for Reunion’s cause. 30 31
