Half an hour later, George slowly flipped over his cards and smiled at the tense Yami across from him.
"Sorry, I won again!"
Yami rubbed his forehead, tore off the last pair of underwear he had left as a safeguard, and tossed it onto the pile of money and clothes beside George.
Using Yami's shirt as a base, George wrapped all the money and clothes into a bundle, then stood up as if preparing to leave.
"Wait. One last round. If I win, you give everything back to me."
Seeing this, Yami spat out the cigarette in his mouth.
George waved a hand.
"But you have nothing left now. What are you going to bet?"
"A bet isn't about what you want. It's about what I have!"
With a slap, Yami slammed his Grimoire onto the table.
"I'm going to surpass my limits here. This is my final stake."
"A Grimoire? Fine. But if I win, I don't want your Grimoire. I only want you to let me join your knight squad."
George had not expected Yami to put even his Grimoire on the line. He really had been driven desperate by the gambling.
But that suited George perfectly.
There were two ways to join the Magic Knights. One was to properly take the Magic Knights examination, display one's abilities, and be selected by one of the nine captains.
The other was much simpler. As long as a Magic Knights captain agreed, they could recruit suitable members as they pleased.
So if Yami agreed now, George would not have to go through the trouble of taking the Magic Knights examination.
Today, he could move into the knight squad and become a member of the Black Bulls. He would not even need to buy a house.
"No problem. Let's do it!"
