Background / History

The Profound Heaven Sect was once a force deeply involved in the battles against cultivators of the Chaos Lands. For generations, its cultivators entered the chaotic continents for training or long-term deployment, with some fighting there for more than a century. They maintained contact with the sect, sent resources home, and became examples revered by later disciples. 25

During the campaign following a Chaos Tide, a group of Profound Heaven Sect cultivators refused an order to cease fighting in a chaotic continent. They believed the ceasefire was based on an undisclosed agreement rather than a decisive victory, and that withdrawing would abandon cultivators who could not retreat in time. Their leader rejected the order and continued the battle; the entire group was subsequently annihilated. 25

The sect itself accepted the outcome and submitted to the new order established by the Three Sages, becoming one of the Seventy-two Immortal Sects of the Lesser Jade Continent. Lü Shenliang opposed this decision openly, but was restrained by sect elders. After later reaching the Golden Core stage, she was confined to the lone peak and forbidden from entering the sect's other peaks. Wang Li subsequently joined her there. 25

Wang Li and Lü Shenliang regard the lone peak—not the sect's thirty-one remaining central peaks—as the true continuation of the Profound Heaven Sect's principles and legacy. 25

Territory

The Profound Heaven Sect's mountain gate lies five hundred miles south of Blackwater Market. Its territory spans roughly five hundred miles. 15

Outer Barrier

• Seventeen glacier-covered peaks, each over a thousand feet high, occupy the outer three hundred miles. 15
• Chaotic natural protective winds weave between these peaks, creating a formidable barrier. 15
• The weakest winds rival First Level Qi Refining wind techniques; the strongest can match a Golden Core Peak cultivator's full-force strike. 15
• Even sect cultivators familiar with safer routes have been killed by the winds; at least three Foundation Establishment cultivators died in the preceding decades. 15
• Teleportation arrays exist, but the sect does not maintain a completely safe passage for low-level cultivators, treating deaths in the barrier as a matter of insufficient Destiny. 15

Core Territory

Within the outer peaks is a two-hundred-mile sunken basin where the protective winds cease. The basin is spring-like year-round and filled with spirit flowers and trees. 15

Cultivation Methods

Profound Heaven Dao Arts

The Profound Heaven Dao Arts are the orthodox cultivation method practiced by all inner disciples of the sect. It is described as a complete path capable of leading a cultivator through Golden Core, Nascent Soul, Spirit Transformation, Nirvana, and Mahayana stages, provided they cultivate steadily and obtain sufficient opportunities. 19

• As an orthodox method, it ordinarily results in standard Heavenly Tribulations appropriate to each cultivation stage. 19
• Wang Li initially experienced the usual Wind Fire Tribulation upon entering Qi Refining. 19

Reputation and Standing

The Profound Heaven Sect is currently considered among the weaker Seventy-two Orthodox Immortal Sects of the Lesser Jade Continent. 10

Despite this, two of the three most powerful cultivators in the Lesser Jade Continent's history originated from the sect, giving it a notable historical foundation. 10

The lone peak has gained notoriety in recent years because of Lü Shenliang's reputation for threatening to self-detonate her Golden Core. 10 15

• Three Sages — The sect accepted their postwar order and became one of the Seventy-two Immortal Sects under their Dao Precepts. 25

• Tong Hui's tribulation — Wang Li and Lü Shenliang appear as Profound Heaven Sect disciples during Old Ancestor Tong Hui's Nascent Soul tribulation. Wang Li retrieves the Yin Thunder Umbrella, later reported as a gift from Tong Hui to the pair. 10 14
• Return to the mountain gate — Wang Li and Lü Shenliang traverse the sect's lethal protective winds to return to the lone peak. 15
• Wang Li's anomalous cultivation — Wang Li's abnormal progression while practicing the Profound Heaven Dao Arts becomes associated with his residence on the lone peak and his connection to Lü Shenliang. 19 20
