Background / History
The Dugu Family's Poison
Dugu Bo's inherited Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor Martial Soul granted formidable poison abilities but poisoned its own wielder. Her father and son died from the same affliction, while her granddaughter, Dugu Yan, began suffering its effects as her Soul Power increased. Generations of poison-related deaths reduced the once-prosperous Dugu family to Dugu Bo's surviving line 23 24 27.
In her youth, Dugu Bo discovered the treasured valley surrounding Ice Fire Lake. Its dense spiritual energy suppressed her poison and prolonged her life for decades, though it could not repair the accumulating damage to her body 23 27.
Recruitment and Cure
During a battle with an old enemy, Dugu Bo's poison flared up, allowing her opponent to grievously wound her. She escaped to Ice Fire Lake, collapsed on its shore, and encountered Ming Lunyu, Ma Hongjun, and Tang Fu'er after stabilizing her condition 23.
Ming Lunyu offered to cure Dugu Yan in exchange for Dugu Bo's service. Dugu Bo immediately offered both her remaining life and the herb garden, provided he could save her granddaughter. His demonstration of Inverse Yin Yang, which began harmonizing her body with its poison, convinced her that the offer was genuine 24.
After Ming Lunyu cured Dugu Yan and evolved her Martial Soul, Dugu Bo formally pledged loyalty. Her own poisoning was too advanced for the same treatment alone, so she accepted a contract that transformed her body and optimized her Martial Soul. She also informed Prince Xue Xing of her retirement before joining Ming Lunyu's group 27 28.
Appearance
- Post-contract form: A petite young woman with thick emerald hair, often arranged in twin ponytails, and green eyes that narrow into serpentine vertical pupils 53 54 75 88.
- Clothing: Wears a cheongsam embroidered with golden snake patterns; her nails and toenails are painted green 54 57 88.
- Serpentine transformation: Martial Soul possession can replace her legs with a long emerald snake tail and reveal a snake tongue and venom fangs 41 58 78.
- Chronological and physical age: Retains decades of experience despite the contract resetting her physical age to approximately sixteen or seventeen 36 63.
Personality
Dugu Bo initially retains the pride of an established Titled Douluo. Even after Tang Fu'er intimidates her, she recovers enough composure to avoid either excessive arrogance or outright fawning. Her concern for Dugu Yan overrides that pride: the possibility of saving her granddaughter makes her willing to surrender her life and treasured garden 23 24.
After her transformation, Dugu Bo becomes conspicuously playful and openly affectionate toward Ming Lunyu. She deliberately acts less imposing around Dugu Yan because she enjoys the closer, more relaxed bond this creates. Her gentleness is selective, however; she consciously presents a pleasant image before Ming Lunyu while retaining her threatening presence toward outsiders 29 49 125.
As an educator, she values determination as well as talent. Zhu Zhuqing's breakthrough during combat earns her praise because she recognizes the danger and resolve involved. She also stresses the importance of a stable cultivation foundation when advising Su Yuntao 89 148.
Abilities & Skills
Emerald Profound Evil Python
Her evolved Martial Soul is classified as a Super Martial Soul, replacing the top-tier Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor 29 77.
- Allows partial or full serpentine possession, including a powerful tail, vertical pupils, venomous claws, and fangs 41 58 78.
- Contract optimization improves the soul skills associated with the Martial Soul, not merely the Martial Soul itself 77.
- Dugu Bo has never heard of this Martial Soul before and speculates that she may be its first wielder 29.
Poison Arts
Poison is Dugu Bo's principal specialty, with particular value in large-scale engagements 23 28.
- Poison immunity: Following her evolution, her poison becomes fully compatible with her body; she also reports immunity to poison 29.
- Poison mist barriers: Seals the Titan Giant Ape's battlefield with emerald fog. The mist withers surrounding vegetation and turns the area within a mile into a dead zone 61.
- Venomous claws: Her transformed nails carry venom capable of reducing a Soul Douluo to pus within three shichen if it spreads through the victim's body 78.
- Covert administration: Secretly releases pale-green powder into Feng Xiaotian's body through the airflow without his noticing 114.
- Poison refinement: Works with Yang Wudi on a forty-nine-ingredient mixed poison tempered in the Flame Spring. Yang Wudi states that, properly used, it can kill an ordinary Titled Douluo in one strike 56.
Second Soul Skill: Mystic Scale Inverse Armor
Protective serpent markings appear across her body, absorbing energy from incoming attacks 78.
- During the exhibition match, Ming Lunyu observes his attacks retaining roughly seventy percent of their original effect 78.
- Taking attacks also increases her movement speed; the bonus reaches maximum stacks after ten attacks 78.
- The protection withstands Ming Lunyu's flaming Folding Fans and Shattering Gold, Breaking Jade without visible damage to her scales 78.
Combat Mobility and Offensive Skills
Her evolved abilities make her effective in close combat as well as battlefield-wide poisoning 77 78.
- Uses her coiled tail to launch herself forward and slithers close to the ground at high speed 78.
- Combines her first, third, fourth, and fifth soul skills to produce poison mist, a giant-python phantom, and azure-green flying blades; their individual names are not given 78.
- At Rank 95, the narration places her above Pufferfish and Snake Lance Douluo, gives her an advantage against Chrysanthemum or Ghost Douluo individually, and describes Sword Douluo Chen Xin as a roughly even opponent 77.
Cultivation and Soul Master Expertise

- Provides intelligence on established experts, including Yang Wudi, Chen Xin, and Gu Rong 36 57.
