"Mr. Wu Yan, are you also a spirit exorcist?" Isumi asked Wu Yan curiously.
Wu Yan looked at the indignant Hinagiku beside him and gave a helpless, wry smile.
"I'm not a spirit exorcist. I just have some power, so I can kill those ghosts and monsters."
"Ghosts and monsters... do they really exist?" Hinagiku put away her indignant expression and asked timidly. Sanjouin Nagi wore the same expression beside her, though hers only appeared after her attempt to feign composure had failed.
Wu Yan did not know how to answer Hinagiku's question, so he could only look toward Isumi. Isumi looked around in confusion for a moment before choosing to change the subject.
"Mr. Wu Yan, where did you encounter the Ghost Leader?" Isumi hurriedly asked Wu Yan. It was also something she wanted to know.
Wu Yan pointed at Hakuhou Academy, and all three girls revealed incredulous expressions.
"You mean you encountered the Ghost Leader inside Hakuhou Academy?" Isumi was stunned, then lowered her head gloomily. As a spirit exorcist, she had failed to notice that ghosts existed in the school she visited every day. It was truly a dereliction of duty.
"There are ghosts inside Hakuhou Academy? You're not joking, are you, Yan?" Hinagiku smiled at Wu Yan, but her smile was as forced as it could be.
When Wu Yan nodded, Sanjouin Nagi was the first to cry out. "I told you, school is no good! There are even ghosts inside it—it's the worst, worst, worst, worst thing ever! Maria still forced me to come here! Wuwuwuwu, I'm never coming again!"
Wu Yan's head began to ache. Seeing Sanjouin Nagi about to burst into tears, he quickly grabbed the back of her collar and pulled her back, saying with a laugh that was neither amused nor tearful, "I've already exorcised the evil spirits in the academy. There won't be any more in the future."
"You're lying! Do you think I'm an idiot?" Sanjouin Nagi shouted as she struggled. Unfortunately, Wu Yan really wanted to tell her that yes, having a high IQ did not mean she was not an idiot. She was the classic high-IQ big idiot.
"Thank you so very much, Mr. Wu Yan." Isumi gave Wu Yan a deep bow. "If you had not exorcised those evil spirits, and they had come out to harm people someday, I would have been terribly culpable. Thank you so much."
Wu Yan smiled awkwardly. I'm not some good man devoted to the country and its people. I only did it for the mission, so there's no need to thank me.
"Mr. Wu Yan, may I ask where you killed the Ghost Leader?" Wu Yan could vaguely see a flame called "redemption" igniting in Isumi's eyes.
"Right in the Old School Building!"
That worked out perfectly. Wu Yan was more than happy for Isumi to get involved. That place was thick with yin energy, and he had been worried that leaving it alone might attract more half-human, half-ghost things. If Isumi, a spirit exorcist, dealt with it, she would surely eliminate all future trouble.
"In the Old School Building? Then were the rumors that people at the academy saw ghosts there true?" Hinagiku asked doubtfully.
Wu Yan was speechless. This girl was quite thick-nerved too. Hinagiku had accepted ghosts and monsters—things ordinary people found hard to accept—in such a short time. Sanjouin Nagi was understandable; after all, her mansion had been haunted before, and Isumi had exorcised it. But Hinagiku was a genuine ordinary person who had never encountered such things. Even if she possessed a little power, whether she could accept it was another matter...
