• Their long lives often distance them from mortal bloodlines and dynasties; the Great Heng Grandfather regarded the survival of his descendants' dynasty as irrelevant after nearly two thousand years of life 320.
• The realm is not synonymous with invulnerability: ascension remains necessary for those seeking a higher path, while fighting at this level can destroy continents 327 373.

Ascension and Merit

Human Immortals seek ascension to the Immortal Realm because the Human Immortal realm represents the ceiling of mortal-world cultivation 305. Merit is essential to crossing the barrier of ascension; without it, even powerful Human Immortals may remain trapped in the lower realm for millennia 327.

The Investiture of Gods produced enough merit for a mass ascension. Iron Crown Immortal extracted the accumulated merit into more than one hundred bottles of Merit Beads, declaring it sufficient for all participating Human Immortals to ascend 327.

• Most Human Immortals ascended during the Double Ninth Festival ceremony 327.

• The Mending Heaven Secret Records require both a Heavenly Spirit Root and a Spiritual Body, qualifications so rare that even Iron Crown Immortal could not begin cultivating them 303.
• A Congenital True Human Body, such as Zhou Yi's Purple Sun True Human body, can provide another route toward cultivating a Human Immortal Body 303.

History

Seventy-two Human Immortal ancestors participated in refining the God Conferring List before returning to their sects, clans, and dynasties to arrange their interests in the coming Celestial Court 322. Their agreement to separate immortals from mortals became part of the new order: sect disciples returned to mountain seclusion, while cultivator-emperors and officials abdicated into mortal governments 322.

After the Investiture of Gods generated immense merit, Human Immortals across sects, dynasties, and even demonic factions prepared to ascend. The mass departure created a major shift in the Eastern Divine Continent's balance of power, leaving the Celestial Court and the three remaining Human Immortals to manage the mortal realm 327.

Human Immortals later became scarce again. Zhou Yi spent over sixteen thousand years cultivating before surviving the Human Immortal Tribulation, using accumulated spells and divine abilities to form the Myriad Laws Divine Light and shatter the lightning tribulation 374. His breakthrough made him effectively unrivaled in the world 375.
