History

Recruitment and Star Technologies

Before meeting Peter Parker, Reed sought funding from Stark Industries for an experimental project but was rejected without ever meeting Tony Stark. Peter later gathered Reed, Tony, Bruce Banner, and other scientists to develop advanced technology for him; Reed and Tony met for the first time during this forced recruitment. 19

Peter identified Reed as “the smartest Earthling in this universe” and the leader of the Fantastic Four. Reed became one of the core scientists tasked with creating Peter's Nano-Suit and Fortress of Solitude. 20

Reed contributed to the team’s controllable nanoparticle research. His initial demonstration formed the nanoparticles into a black dagger, but its structure collapsed within seconds because the system lacked a sufficiently powerful energy source. 32 After Tony solved the energy issue with a miniature Arc Reactor, Reed estimated that the Nano-Suit could be completed within a month. 33 34

Once Peter offered the researchers a chance to return home, Reed chose instead to remain with Star Technologies alongside several other scientists. 71

Teleportation and Space Station Research

Reed developed the first Teleportation Gate technology using advanced equipment and Arc Reactor power. Its initial form allowed Tony to pass through a wall via paired blue energy screens; Reed’s intended final design was a linked system capable of ignoring distance and connecting separate locations. 48

He later named the technology the Teleportation Gate, expanded it across the Space Station, and created a first-generation Vibranium Portal Gun for localized short-range teleportation. 57 90 123

Reed led preparations to capture the approaching Cosmic Storm, ordering personnel to secure the Space Station and activate its upgraded shield system. 98 After Peter captured the storm, Reed’s team analyzed it and identified an ancient energy structure capable of destroying and reconstructing matter at the submolecular level. 99

His research established that the energy within the Cosmic Storm could evolve organisms and grant a wide range of superhuman abilities. Reed was later able to separate the Phoenix Force from the captured storm. 105 106

Multiverse Research and Council Formation

After witnessing Peter manipulate time and collect Speed Force remnants, Reed began researching the extradimensional energy. He concluded that fully understanding or recreating the Speed Force alone could take years—or might be impossible—so he proposed a Multiverse Scientific Research Council. 163

Reed argued that alternate versions of himself were the safest initial members because he could trust their moral character more readily than unknown geniuses from other realities. Peter authorized the Council, while retaining ultimate authority over its meetings and invitations. 164

The Council brought together five alternate Reeds, including a businessman, Fantastic Four members, an Illuminati member, a stay-at-home father, and a survivor from a zombie-ravaged universe.
