Background / History

Kaido initially dismissed Roy as an insignificant newcomer after Roy defeated Doflamingo. At the time, he was focused on building an invincible pirate crew of Devil Fruit users and sought stimulation through destruction, assaults on Marine Headquarters, and clashes with fellow Four Emperors 84.

He later entered Wano Country during its civil conflict. His indiscriminate attacks devastated both sides, and neither Kozuki Oden nor Kurozumi Orochi could inflict lasting damage on him. Learning that the Kozuki Family guarded the Poneglyph he sought, Kaido allied with Orochi to destroy the family and seize Wano 257.

Although Kaido's overwhelming durability made him the decisive force in Wano's war, his lack of speed allowed Oden and Orochi to delay him through mobile fighting tactics 257. His alliance with Orochi was fundamentally unequal; Orochi functioned as Kaido's puppet and executed retainers who displeased him 268.

Appearance

Before his absorption, Kaido was a massive, muscular man whose physical presence was compared to an ancient demon god. Despite his enormous frame, he was noted to have short legs 269 294.

Kaido's occupation of Wano and alliance with Orochi place him against the Kozuki Family. When Roy enters Wano, destroys the Kozuki side of the conflict, and targets Kaido's claimed prey, Kaido declares Roy a worthy opponent and accepts his challenge at Mount Fuji 253 265 267.

Five Emperors Melee

Still eager to fight despite his defeat, Kaido joins Whitebeard, Big Mom, Red Hair, and Roy in a chaotic battle. His durability allows him to remain in relatively good condition despite taking repeated hits and being knocked into the sea 292 293 294.

War Against Roy

Kaido later formally joins the war against Roy's forces. The Beasts Pirates suffer severe losses: Jack is captured, Nicholas disappears, and Kaido escapes with Ulysses 374 386.

Kaido attacks Roy's base alone to rescue Jack. He succeeds in reaching the prison, but Roy's main body effortlessly restrains him, destroys his club, overwhelms his will, and absorbs him into the Dream World.
