Background / History

Type 3 was first identified when a massive rhombus-shaped object appeared alongside the stargate anomaly. East University assessed it as an energy device and estimated its wireless energy-transmission range at roughly 200–300 nautical miles; lacking intelligence on its energy system and other capabilities, command initially ordered continued observation rather than an attack. 128

Its early operations revealed Type 3 as a high-value battlefield unit. A camouflaged Type 3 approaching Hawaii deployed Sentinels into defensive and attack formations, while a 200-meter unit later hovered over Honolulu and used lasers to suppress military facilities and strike the city. 140 146

During the Oman campaign, Type 3’s place in the alien military system became clear. Type 3s supplied power to Type 2 units, which in turn acted as relay nodes for Type 1 attack clusters; eliminating a Type 2 relay caused dependent Type 1s to lose power and fall or self-destruct. 189 191 194

Later Type 3s displayed increasingly sophisticated defenses, including more external crystal modules for missile interception and dense laser fire.
