Geography and peoples

• Freljord lies north of Demacia, separated from it by mountains with several passable routes 220.
• The Avarosan Tribe held territory around Rakkor and westward to Frost Harbor, one of the region’s few ports 611 626.
• Freljordian tribes traditionally honor their ancestors. A tribal leader bears the title Warmother, commonly held by the tribe’s strongest woman 229.
• Spirit Walkers are combat shamans connected to spiritual magic. They serve tribes in exchange for a place to live and train 613.

Freljord Island is separate from the Freljord region. It lies northwest of Ionia and was granted to Ryan Meredith as a fiefdom 73.

History

The Three Sisters

Freljord was not always as cold as it is in the present era. Avarosa, Serylda, and Lissandra led the Yeti Tribe and Iceborn, alongside Demigods, against the Northern Gods and established Freljordian civilization. The Three Sisters remained central to tribal ancestry and belief 113 222 229.

Noxian involvement

Noxus maintained a northern military front but avoided a deep invasion because of unpredictable powers within Freljord. Its strategy included using local tribes against one another 238. Later, Noxus sent forces and investigators into the region; LeBlanc reported that Lissandra remained active and that the Void was sealed beneath Frostguard Citadel 220 288.

The Void war and rebirth

After Lissandra’s fall, the seal at Frostguard Citadel weakened and Void creatures spread through Freljord. Ashe rallied Avarosan Warmothers, while Volibear led Spirit Walkers against the invasion. Anivia fought alongside Noxian councilors Viktor and Elise; Swain and Ornn confronted the Void Empress, Bel’Veth 611 616 617 618.

The tribes suffered severe losses. The Winter’s Claw was annihilated, and Ashe chose to move the surviving Avarosans west to Frost Harbor rather than compete with Demacia and Noxus for territory 626. Bel’Veth escaped, but the remaining Demigod-level Void creatures were captured. Ryan then entrusted Freljord to local tribes aligned with the Empire, and Anivia covered the war’s traces in ice, reshaping the land 629.
