Background

Seraphine was born to Zaunite parents and came to Piltover while still young. Her parents retained concern for Zaun and privately discussed aiding it, shaping Seraphine’s goodwill toward the city before she ever saw it herself. When she finally visited, the heart-songs of Zaun’s people overturned Piltover’s portrayal of the undercity as irredeemably chaotic; she instead heard hope, resilience, and yearning for freedom. 51 61

Her ability to hear souls initially frightened and tormented her. She was overwhelmed by voices from afar and feared her own talent until she encountered Ryan Meredith, who taught her to develop it rather than flee from it. 189 Ryan also impressed on her that talent alone was insufficient: a mage needed knowledge, reading, and a personal path. 59

Her first major test came during Orianna’s father’s heart transplant. Asked to perform a modified Requiem, Seraphine struggled against its dark melody before transforming it into a life-affirming song that improved the surgery’s chance of success. 48

Appearance

Seraphine is a pale, pink-haired girl with sea-blue eyes who commonly travels on a floating stage. Her ordinary, approachable appearance contrasts sharply with the spectral form she develops on the Shadow Isles. 110 190 304

  • Fluffy, flowing pink hair and blue eyes. 190 261
  • Uses a hovering stage as both transport and performance platform. 190 203
  • Wears a black bracelet given by Syndra, which can summon her teacher when infused with magic. 196
  • In her Wraith-empowered state, her hair, eyes, and clothing are marked by ghostly green flames and a translucent Spectral Cloak. 304

Personality

Seraphine is empathetic, curious, and intensely interested in the stories carried by other people’s souls. She treats every person as a source of inspiration, believing that songs can begin anywhere and that every heart contains its own melody. This empathy makes her a patient mentor to children such as Annie and a perceptive listener among Zaunites, Noxians, and Demacians. 110 190 222

She is not purely idealistic. Exposure to humanity’s ugliest thoughts from an early age gave her a pragmatic, sometimes severe view of change. She accepts that dark souls may be eliminated rather than redeemed, and she is willing to use her influence, political insight, and magical power to advance the future she believes will improve people’s lives. 57 217

Though she initially compares herself unfavorably to stronger mages, she ultimately embraces an identity separate from her teachers’ Rune Magic path. Her defining ambition is to make the world hear her own voice. 228

Abilities & Skills

Heart-Song Perception

Seraphine hears the “songs” of souls: emotional states, hopes, beliefs, memories, and—in many cases—surface thoughts. This allows her to understand people beyond their words.

  • Perceives the emotional character of individuals and crowds, including Zaun’s widespread hope despite hardship. 51
  • Identifies magical potential and emotional distress through a person’s soul-song, as with Annie. 110
  • Can share the heart-songs of a population with another person through contact, allowing Luxanna to hear the Demacian people’s emotions. 217
  • Strong souls and magical defenses can resist or conceal thoughts from her; she cannot hear Ryan’s soul because it is protected by Runes, and Luxanna’s mind is similarly inaccessible. 59 214

Soul Song and Emotional Influence

Her singing communicates directly with souls, calming emotional turmoil, awakening memories, and compelling listeners to feel the meaning carried in her performance.

  • Calmed Annie’s fear and extinguished her uncontrolled flames with a melodic voice. 110
  • During a public Noxian performance, used a tangible note-shaped Rune to amplify her soul communication, making listeners relive memories, release regret, and feel hope. 190
  • Her voice can carry across distance with the intimacy of a direct whisper, fostering trust even during tense negotiations. 269
  • Her soul magic is feared in Demacia because it can forcibly communicate with and awaken emotions in ordinary people. 214

Requiem and Ochnun

Seraphine can perform Requiem in the Ochnun language, applying music to souls caught between death, pain, and lingering Resolve.

  • Altered a dark Requiem into a song affirming life during Orianna’s father’s surgery. 48
  • Used her song to purify five corrupt enforcers, killing them in the process. 57
  • Achieved mastery sufficient to perform a Requiem for Karthus after defeating him through the power of their respective tomes. 314
  • Uses Ochnun to pacify and release Wraiths, allowing their trapped souls to rest. 299 304

Hero-tier Soul Voice

After becoming Hero-tier, Seraphine’s voice no longer affects only souls; it can influence material objects through sound.

  • Shattered Fiora’s sword without direct physical contact. 230
  • Her increased presence makes listeners perceive the message she conveys as reaching into their souls. 228

Soul Tome and Benevolent Spirits

Meredith’s Soulstealer Tome allows Seraphine to collect soul energy, receive memories and beliefs from souls, and command willing spirits.

  • Absorbs soul energy while receiving the memories, emotions, and beliefs of the deceased. 295 299
  • Records redeemed souls in the tome, including the explorer Nois Wright. 299
  • Commands disciplined benevolent spirits rather than instinct-driven Evil Spirits. 313
  • The tome can empower its spirits with golden armor and overwhelm the Wraiths released by Karthus’s Soulstealer Tome. 313 314

Spectral Cloak and Black Mist Control

On the Shadow Isles, Seraphine’s redeemed Wraith energy forms the Spectral Cloak, granting her protection, a temporary reserve of soul power, and increasing control over the Black Mist.

  • The cloak is formed from souls’ wishes and deflects most incoming attacks. 295
  • Purified Wraiths dissolve into energy that feeds the cloak. 299
  • Can use soul power and Ochnun to trap a Demigod-level Abyssal Maw in a soul illusion, weakening it while Elise acts against it. 306
  • Is recognized as one of the Black Mist’s controllers and is tasked with either defeating or subjugating its other controllers. 331

Rune Magic and Magical Instruction

Although Rune Magic is not Seraphine’s natural path, she is the first student to systematically learn Ryan and Syndra’s magical system and later teaches it at the War College.

  • Demonstrates linked two-rune and three-rune spell combinations to students. 142
  • Explains magic as a bodily “container” with an opening through which magic can enter, be stored, and be released. 141
  • Offers individual guidance to students struggling with magical control. 141
  • Recognizes that Rune Magic is Ryan and Syndra’s path rather than her own, using its knowledge to support her distinct soul-based magic. 228

Diplomacy and Mentorship

Seraphine combines empathy with political awareness, serving as an educator and Noxian representative.

  • Recruits prospective students for the War College and finds opportunities for Miel, Ryder, and Annie. 110
  • Leads young mages through Demacia, encouraging direct observation, reflection, and cultural understanding. 222
  • Represents Noxus in diplomatic meetings with Luxanna and Demacia’s leadership. 214 217
  • Uses perceptive conversation to challenge assumptions and influence political figures, including Luxanna and Rell. 140 218

Story Role / Major Arcs

Piltover-Zaun and the Requiem

Seraphine begins as a gifted but uncertain soul listener in Piltover. She helps Orianna perform the Requiem needed for a heart transplant, then visits Zaun and rejects Piltover’s distorted image of the city after hearing its people’s hope. 48 51

After receiving Meredith’s Soulstealer Tome, she confronts the moral weight of her power. She kills five enforcers through purification, stops Jinx from bombing Piltover Academy, and decides to join Noxus to gain the strength needed to reshape the world with her song. 57

War College Mentor

In Noxus, Seraphine serves as an admissions officer and mentor in the Magic Department. She recruits talented children, including Annie, teaches systematic magical knowledge, and introduces Rune Magic to the Empire’s next generation. 110 141 142

Her public performances establish her as a figure capable of moving crowds through soul resonance. Her Noxian concert turns personal memories, grief, and longing into a shared emotional experience. 190

Demacian Envoy and Hero-tier Awakening

As Noxus’s envoy to Demacia, Seraphine works alongside Luxanna while guiding young Noxian mages through the country. Her ability to hear souls gives her insight into Demacia’s contradictions and political pressures. 214 217 222

After accepting that her true strength lies not in following Rune Magic but in making the world hear her own voice, she advances to Hero-tier. She immediately demonstrates the new level by shattering Fiora’s sword through sound. 228 230

Shadow Isles Expedition

Seraphine leads an independent mission toward Bilgewater and the Shadow Isles, where she senses a connection to the Black Mist. She chooses to investigate the Isles personally, seeking both the truth behind Viego and Isolde and redemption for souls forgotten by the Ruination. 278 296

There, she purifies Wraiths, gains the Spectral Cloak, absorbs souls’ memories and wishes, and develops a path toward Demigodhood. Her soul magic becomes a decisive support against the Abyssal Maw and Karthus. 295 306 314

Underworld Ascension

Seraphine becomes a major power in the Underworld, commanding benevolent spirits and seeking to transform its fractured realm rather than merely dominate it. Karthus and Maokai join her effort after an Underworld Gate opens on the Shadow Isles. 609

By controlling part of the Lower Realm and gaining the allegiance of Viego’s Wraiths, she rises to high-tier Demigod strength and advances her authority over life, death, and the Underworld itself. 578 619
