Background / History

Powder and the loss of her family

Originally named Powder, Jinx grew up in Zaun with her older sister Vi and their adoptive father Vander. During an attempt to rescue Vander, her explosives struck both sides of the confrontation, contributing to the deaths of her companions. Vander’s death was tied to both her bomb and Silco’s actions 33 55 68.

Vi angrily called Powder a “jinx” after the disaster and was subsequently taken to Piltover by Enforcers. Powder interpreted their separation as abandonment. Silco took her in and raised her, repeatedly affirming her abilities even when she failed 55 68.

Ryan describes her subsequent identity as a combination of Powder, who longs for Vi’s approval, and Jinx, whose anger arose from that rejection. Silco’s care complicates this division rather than allowing resentment alone to define her 33.

Attacks on Piltover

Jinx first appears leaving the scene of an attack in Piltover with a stable Hextech crystal taken from Jayce’s laboratory. Ryan recognizes her as one of Silco’s people 10.

She later attacks Stillwater Hold with a Gatling and explosive canisters, killing Enforcers. Jayce forces her to retreat with energy blasts from his hammer; she throws a canister into an incoming shot to cover her escape 18.

After developing her transforming Hextech weapon, Jinx receives a mission to bomb two Piltover locations with Sevika. Their mutual hostility softens during the operation when Sevika challenges her to confront her past and recognize her own value. They infiltrate Piltover by climbing its walls and prepare a rocket attack on a tower 30 31 32.

Failed reunion and capture

Seraphine confirms that Vi is alive and working for Piltover’s Enforcement Office. Although Jinx denies wanting a reunion, she eventually travels with Seraphine to the Kiramman residence and listens to Vi and Caitlyn through a window 52 54.

Hearing Vi’s determination to recover “Powder” deepens Jinx’s belief that her sister rejects who she has become. The confrontation escalates into a chase, during which Caitlyn wounds her leg. Seraphine protects and heals her, but Jinx launches a rocket at Vi and Caitlyn and continues attacking Piltover 55 56.

Jinx damages the Hexgates and destroys several newly built factories before bringing explosives to Piltover Academy. Believing she has killed Vi and repaid Silco for raising her, she attempts to detonate the bombs on her body. Seraphine immobilizes her with a song, allowing Jayce and Heimerdinger to disarm and capture her 57.

Execution and Silco’s sacrifice

Piltover’s Council orders a public execution. While confined in Stillwater Hold, Jinx reflects on her guilt, her resentment toward Vi, and Silco’s unwavering encouragement 60 68.

Vi visits her before the execution, revealing that she survived the explosion and had spent the years following Vander’s death imprisoned. She proposes that Jinx earn clemency by killing Silco when he comes to rescue her. Jinx outwardly agrees but uses their childhood hand signals to ask Vi to escape with her instead 68 69.

Silco attacks the execution plaza and frees Jinx. She initially points a gun at him, then realizes she cannot kill the man who loves her as his daughter. She shoots Madame Kiramman instead and opens fire on the Enforcers 70 71.

Silco remains behind to cover Jinx’s escape to Zaun in a mechanical boat. Piltover’s Machine Dragon destroys him and his remaining robots while she watches from the opposite shore. Jinx returns to Zaun and mourns him with Viktor and Sevika 72.

War College and the arena

Jinx travels to Noxus with Viktor to attend the War College, with the stated intention of eventually returning to establish a branch campus in Zaun. She sees Noxus as an opportunity to become stronger and begins challenging the Coliseum alongside Ekko 98 99 100.

Their repeated arena training renews their childhood bond. By the time she reports to the War Department, Jinx appears calmer, and the distinction between her Powder and Jinx identities is less visible 138.

In a later match, she uses her completed Hextech weapon and explosive counterattacks against Ekko’s time-manipulation abilities. Ekko defeats her while holding back his final strike. She accepts his offered hand, reasserts that she is Jinx, and leaves determined to improve 154 155.

Appearance

  • Blue hair: Initially worn in twin ponytails or pigtails; later described as braids arranged one high and one low 10 30 138.
  • Youthful face: Her childish appearance contrasts with her violent expressions during combat 18.
  • Arena scars: Several scabbed scars mark her face after sustained training in Noxus 138.
  • Monkey accessory: Carries a monkey toy at her waist that she describes as an essential tool for explosions 54.

Personality

Jinx is mocking, impulsive, and openly delighted by explosions. She initially resists Viktor’s recommendation to study, but immediately requests more books when he explains that the material can make her explosions more spectacular. Her enthusiasm for destruction coexists with genuine technical curiosity 30.

Her fiercest emotional reactions concern abandonment and recognition. She claims not to care about Vi while urgently seeking information about her, and she resents attempts to treat her solely as the helpless Powder of their childhood. Silco’s willingness to trust her after mistakes gives her the affirmation she believes Vi withheld 52 68.

Her recklessness does not exclude restraint or planning. She listens outside the Kiramman residence rather than immediately attacking, recognizes the political arrangement behind Vi’s clemency proposal, and covertly offers an alternative escape plan 54 69.

In Noxus, her destructive enthusiasm persists, but she becomes more composed and capable of accepting failure. Her defeat by Ekko motivates improvement rather than another uncontrolled outburst 138 155.

Abilities & Skills

Hextech Engineering

Jinx designs a transforming firearm by inscribing runes on a mechanical gun and powering the mechanism with a Hex Gemstone 30.

  • Converts a Gatling into a shoulder-mounted rocket launcher 30.
  • Studies missile trajectories and mechanical dynamics under Viktor’s guidance 30 54.
  • Completes a weapon capable of freely changing between both firing modes 154.
  • Early limitation: Her initial rockets can be intercepted in flight. Adding a second gemstone also presents an energy-conflict problem requiring further study 30.

Marksmanship and Explosives

Her combat style combines sustained gunfire, rockets, and thrown or dropped explosives 18 154.

  • Suppresses groups of Enforcers with automatic fire and explosive canisters 18.
  • Uses explosives to cover retreats and punish close-range attackers 18 154.
  • Causes extensive damage to Piltover’s transport and industrial infrastructure 57.
  • Gains a reputation for masterful gunplay within the War College’s arena community 179.

Enhanced Physique and Mobility

Shimmer gives Jinx a physique approaching Jayce’s despite her younger age 27.

  • Reacts quickly enough to evade a lethal energy blast 18.
  • Climbs Piltover’s walls during an infiltration mission 32.
  • Uses her gun barrel to block Ekko’s strike and propel herself away from an explosive trap 154.
  • Limits: She remains vulnerable to bullets, incapacitating soul magic, and Ekko’s superior speed and time-based techniques 55 57 154 155.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Transforming Gatling / rocket launcher — Her principal weapon, upgraded with runes and a Hex Gemstone; its early launcher configuration contains a purple, shark-faced rocket 30 154.
