Stratholme Territory (the future Eastern Plaguelands).
In the early morning, the natural fragrance and birdsong woke Oscar from his sleep.
After escaping the Orcs' pursuit on his black goat, he had continued fleeing north, eventually arriving in Stratholme Territory of the Kingdom of Lordaeron. Exhausted to the extreme, Oscar found a small lake, collapsed, and slept until the next morning—now.
Oscar tidied his beloved beard, then realized his stomach was growling with hunger. He had tossed away his backpack because it got in the way. Now, aside from a basketful of Orc heads, he had nothing made of meat.
But that did not stump Oscar. He quickly gathered a pile of branches and tough, slender vines, then fashioned a simple wooden hook. The dwarf plopped down on the ground and began fishing with this crude rod.
Because he had arrived in such a hurry last night, he had not taken a close look around. With nothing to do now, Oscar carefully examined the small lake and discovered that it seemed to possess a faint sense of holiness, along with supreme divine might! It was as if invisible, traceless fate had guided him here, and he was about to obtain something!
Just then, the fishing rod suddenly sank. Oscar immediately tossed his wild thoughts aside and yanked it up with all his strength.
A catfish!
The dwarf thought for a moment, then hooked another earthworm and cast it into the lake. One fish was not enough to fill him up! Again!
Just then, a clap of thunder exploded in the sky, making Oscar shudder.
What the hell! I'm just fishing! You want to strike me with lightning? I'm damn well going to fish anyway! What are you going to do about it!
Thunder boomed through the sky one clap after another.
