History
Early adventuring
Oscar began as an optimistic but unsuccessful Dwarf adventurer. He was arrested after being mistaken for a cultist capable of commanding Orcs, then fled the Crusaders after insulting Sylvanas Windrunner and believing the Titan Divine Venerable intended to punish him 78 82.
While hunting Orcs in the Arathi Highlands, Oscar became infamous for ambushing warriors while they relieved themselves, killing them with his wooden hammer and collecting their heads for bounties. When Orc scouts discovered his method, he escaped on his Black Goat, more upset about losing bounty heads than the pursuit itself 82.
In the Eastern Plaguelands, he acquired the blood-red dagger Dustbringer and adopted the title Fiery Landlord. Hu Feng later received Oscar in Stormwind, formally acknowledged the title, and upgraded the weapon 83 124.
Death at Andorhal
Oscar and the Mage Xavius Mograine defended ruined Andorhal against Arthas and the Scourge. Xavius destroyed himself with Arcane magic while Oscar fought until a Ghoul pierced his chest; Arthas then raised him as a Death Knight 155.
His resurrection left him unstable. During lucid moments, Oscar attacked nearby Scourge forces and plotted to escape, while Arthas isolated him at the rear of the advancing army 156.
Scourge infiltration and rebellion
Kel'Thuzad named Oscar one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, believing him loyal to the Lich King. In reality, Oscar transmitted Naxxramas' defenses, troop deployments, and routes to Sylvanas while preparing to betray the Scourge 180.
He formed a personal army by restoring Timmy's free will, raising Scarlet Crusaders as Scarlet Undead, and moving Death Knights loyal to him into Stratholme's Scarlet Zone. By the impending Battle of Naxxramas, at least one-third of the Military District's Death Knight forces had defected to him 179 235.
Lord of Stratholme
Oscar negotiated with Highlord Bolvar during the Scourge War, agreeing to join the Alliance's assault on the Lich King in return for Stratholme. Afterward, Silver Dawn accepted his control of the city, despite the presence of Plaguebringer Noth, Death Knights, and other elite undead under his command 246 256.
He created an adventurer district for the living, complete with an inn, tavern, and equipment shop, helping Stratholme regain its role as a northern transit city. Magni also granted him permission to enter Ironforge openly despite his undead appearance 276.
Return to adventuring
Though he ruled Stratholme, Oscar found lordship unfulfilling and decided to resume adventuring after securing his city. He later entered the Silver League's Champion Trial, where he and Mr. Fat Maggot defeated three Horde champions before Oscar destroyed an intruding rogue Death Knight 279 390.
Paltrice compelled him to confront his guilt over Xavius's death. After defeating a fear illusion of Xavius, Oscar accepted that his friend had chosen to fight and resolved to continue pursuing revenge against the Lich King 395.
Oscar eventually married Paltrice in Stratholme, hosting adventurers at his expense and offering an experience lecture for lower-ranking adventurers. The ceremony attracted figures including Sargeras, Sylvanas, Malygos, Nozdormu, and Tirion Fordring 440 441.
Appearance
Oscar is a short Dwarf whose undead condition is marked by red eyes. As a Death Knight, he wears heavy black armor with shoulder guards carved in the likeness of two fat maggots 163 385.
- Often rides or fights alongside Mr. Fat Maggot.
- Formerly rode a living Black Goat; after his resurrection, the mount became undead and was renamed Invincible 156.
- Carries the corrupted Dustbringer, whose blade bears glowing ice-blue runes after his resurrection 156.
Personality
Oscar is boastful, greedy, impulsive, and defiantly confident. He frequently exaggerates his accomplishments, gives himself grandiose titles, and approaches danger with humor or insults rather than restraint 82 395.
Despite this behavior, he retains loyalty to struggling adventurers and to his family. Even after gaining fame and wealth, he continued accepting minor bounty work with low-income adventurers; he later urged Dulin to abandon adventuring for a safer life and provided gold to fund his brother's future blacksmith shop 142 257.
Oscar can be crude and intrusive in his pursuit of Paltrice, beginning their acquaintance by slapping her without consent. However, his persistence develops into a more sincere relationship as he shares his past, confronts his grief, and eventually marries her 385 395 440.
