History
Acquisition by Kaido
Kaido demanded Dyna Stone and artificial Devil Fruit data during negotiations with World Government agents. The agents initially refused, fearing the consequences of giving an island-destroying weapon to him, before agreeing to consult their superiors. Joker learned of the demand and began plotting to exploit it 182 184.
The transaction ultimately went through. Joker identified Kaido's supply on Onigashima as the only available batch outside the Marines' and World Government's secret stocks, then persuaded Byrnndi World to raid it by proposing a More-More Fruit–amplified attack on Mary Geoise 194.
Theft from Onigashima
During the raid, Joker used the Chop-Chop Fruit to penetrate the walls and floors of Kaido's heavily guarded armory and steal a massive black iron chest containing Dyna Stone. King, whose forces were nearing collapse, went to retrieve the explosives as a last resort but found them missing 202.
Joker demonstrated the stolen weapon by throwing one at the Skull Palace. The explosion destroyed its upper two floors, leaving only the structure below the skull's nose. King recognized the blast from the Beasts Pirates' earlier tests and feared that World could amplify it beyond even Kaido's ability to withstand 202.
Mary Geoise Explosion
Joker and World tested whether Dyna Stone could be divided without detonating and enlarged through a single connected fragment. Their success enabled a plan to place part of the explosive inside Mary Geoise while retaining fragments elsewhere for amplification and remote detonation 203 204.
Joker loaded a large quantity into the Super Brachiosaurus, his modified version of Queen. During the attack, World amplified the retained fragments with Momo - 120x Cannon, exceeding his previous hundredfold limit. Joker then released the connections between the fragments, triggering explosions on Onigashima and beside Kizaru in Mary Geoise 207 209.
The Mary Geoise blast killed or wounded key personnel and destroyed government records and intelligence. The resulting loss of prestige encouraged Member States to question their allegiance and Heavenly Tribute payments. The Five Elders privately recognized that the explosives came from their own secret deal with Kaido 210 213.
Appearance and Containment
- Stored form: Oval stones floating in pink liquid inside test-tube-like containers 202.
- Protective covering: A special metal mesh that Yamato could not bite through; Joker removed it before his demonstration 202.
- Transport: Kaido's batch was kept in a massive black iron chest 202.
- Divided form: Joker reduced retained fragments to red, powder-like particles; World's amplification enlarged them into pebble-sized stones 209.
Properties and Applications
Explosive Power
Dyna Stone is described as the Pirate World's most explosive substance, far exceeding ordinary gunpowder. Its reputation as a weapon comparable to the three Ancient Weapons is explicitly presented as potentially exaggerated, but its ability to destroy an ordinary island is affirmed 182.
- A single thrown Dyna Stone destroyed two floors of the Skull Palace, whose giant-demon bones were harder than ordinary steel and resisted conventional cannonballs 202.
- The Super Brachiosaurus's payload could destroy an ordinary island even without More-More Fruit amplification 207.
- World's specially built cannon used weaker explosives; after amplification, its shots approached the power of ordinary Dyna Stone 240.
Air-Triggered Detonation
Exposure to air causes Dyna Stone to explode. Joker's Chop-Chop Fruit could separate it into apparently exposed pieces without triggering detonation because the connected pieces still counted as an intact whole 203 204.
- Maintaining the connection kept the divided explosive stable 203.
- Chop-Chop - Connection Release severed that connection and allowed detonation 204 209.
Devil Fruit Amplification
| Combination | Effect | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Chop-Chop Fruit + More-More Fruit | Enlarging one connected fragment enlarged the entire divided explosive, including pieces at another location. | Confirmed through an experiment using tenfold-enlarged Dyna Stone 203 204. |
| Momo - 120x Cannon | Amplified the retained fragments beyond World's former hundredfold limit. | Used immediately before the Mary Geoise detonation 209. |
| Mark-Mark Fruit | Could theoretically deliver Dyna Stone toward a marked target. | Doflamingo considered this a potentially lethal threat even to an Emperor distracted by an equally strong opponent; no such use is shown 405. |
Limitations and Countermeasures
- Restricted availability: Dyna Stone was a controlled World Government item, with supplies kept secret 194 210.
- Blast danger: Joker cut the retained fragments extremely small because larger fragments could produce an explosion powerful enough to reach him and World 209.
- Exceptional survival: Kizaru escaped the Mary Geoise blast through elemental transformation. Kong barely endured it because he was far from the explosion and possessed formidable Haki and physical strength 211.
- Not an Ancient Weapon: Kizaru explicitly identified the weapon used against Mary Geoise as newly developed Dyna Stone amplified by the More-More Fruit, rather than an Ancient Weapon 212.
