Overview

Mary Geoise is a city on the Red Line, described as the world's most beautiful and prosperous city while also being its “darkest and dirtiest.” It serves as the center of World Government power, with Pangea Castle at its core. 333 494

It is home to the Celestial Dragons and their slaves. The city’s social order is enforced by bodyguards, World Government special agents, and a dedicated land army. 3 162 487

Society and Slavery

• Celestial Dragon slaves bear the Celestial Dragon mark and are depicted as deeply traumatized and resigned to their treatment. 3 6

• Mary Geoise is situated on the Red Line. After the Great Explosion, its elevation was reduced by roughly another thousand meters, leaving it below 4,000 meters high. 332
• Its walls incorporate Sea Stone, preventing Morley’s Push-Push Fruit from directly opening passages through them; he instead tunneled beneath their foundations. 334
• Following earlier attacks, the city’s guards and overall security were substantially reinforced. Under normal conditions, its defense included a Navy Admiral, more than a dozen Vice Admiral-level agents or guards, and numerous other personnel. 333 487
• Imu once protected the entire city by covering it in an immense mass of Armament Haki, allowing the damaged city to remain intact and float after the Red Line was devastated. 209 210

Major Incidents

Donquixote Family Departure

Donquixote Homing chose to move his family away from Mary Geoise despite Doflamingo’s objections. Doflamingo later left the Holy Land himself after burying his possessions there, intending to one day return and overthrow both Mary Geoise and the World Government. 6 7

First Assault and Slave Uprising

Doflamingo launched a coordinated attack on Mary Geoise by disabling its Den Den Mushi communications through illusions and causing CP0 agents under his hypnosis to rebel. The agents attacked Celestial Dragon bodyguards, freed slaves, and brutalized—but did not kill—the Celestial Dragons. 161 162

Doflamingo limited the assault after Future Sight showed that killing or critically injuring Celestial Dragons would provoke a lethal response from Imu. 161

Sancho simultaneously raided Celestial Dragon residences for gold and jewels, killing at least one CP0 agent who tried to stop her. 161

Great Explosion

A later explosion involving Dyna Stone amplified by the Moa Moa no Mi devastated the Red Line around Mary Geoise. The city itself survived because of Imu’s overwhelming Armament Haki protection, though it was left floating as a spherical sky island and the surrounding Red Line was shaved away by thousands of meters. 209 210 212

Most of the city’s defenders were killed; besides the Five Elders and Celestial Dragons, only Kong and Borsalino are identified as surviving the blast. 211

The Three Elders subsequently rebuilt Mary Geoise’s foundations at enormous expense and increased the Heavenly Tribute to finance the restoration. 303

Second Major Invasion

Tiger, the Sun Pirates, the Revolutionary Army, and the Clown Pirates mounted another assault on Mary Geoise. Their objectives included liberating slaves and obtaining intelligence from Pangea Castle. 332 334

The attackers breached the Holy Land, but the Five Elders eventually suppressed the chaos. Many Joker Party members were eliminated or self-destructed, while escaping slaves were guided through Morley’s tunnel network. 338 340

Straw Hat Incident

The Straw Hat Crew entered Mary Geoise after their flight was mistaken for a deliberate attack. Although they quickly defeated the available guards, Imu struck them from roughly a kilometer away with Haki, severely injuring much of the crew. 485 487

Doflamingo’s Illusion Homie clone then cast an extreme time-dilated illusion across the city, causing Celestial Dragons and their bodyguards to exchange social roles within the illusion. Imu countered by knocking the affected population unconscious. 488 490

Godhood Ritual Crisis

As islands and the Red Line moved and reshaped into a new continental formation, Mary Geoise became the focal point of the World Government’s ritual to create a god. A golden barrier surrounded the city, trapping its defenders and preventing outside factions from entering. 493 494

When the barrier disappeared, major forces fought within and around Mary Geoise against golden armored guards and Imu. Despite the scale of the conflict, the city resisted catastrophic damage. 495 496
