After hearing Vegapunk's words, Orochimaru answered without hesitation, "No. Suikazan Fuguki seemed never to have used this kind of technique before. At least during the last Ninja World War, I never received any intelligence regarding it."
"Other than Samehada, what he was best at used to be Water Release and hair-based ninjutsu powered by Yang Release."
"Hmm..." A meaningful smile appeared on Vegapunk's face as he watched Suikazan Fuguki's performance, a vague guess forming in his heart.
Was this a ninjutsu deliberately developed in imitation of the Eight Gates Formation because of psychological trauma? Unfortunately, its effects were far inferior to the Eight Gates Formation—probably only equivalent to opening the third or fourth gate! Yet the side effects were at least comparable to the seventh gate. It couldn't be called a complete failure, but for Suikazan Fuguki, it really was the wrong path.
In truth, Suikazan Fuguki was naturally not that foolish. This move of his had originally been meant to work alongside Samehada. By having Samehada continuously absorb Chakra to heal his Physical Body, he could minimize the side effects and extend his fighting time as much as possible. It was only because Samehada had let him down this time that he had been forced to risk his life.
Vegapunk was a supergenius in scientific research, but he had accomplished nothing in combat. Relying on this body's talent and combat instincts, along with training and development through scientific equipment, his own fighting strength was not low. However, when it came to combat wisdom, he was basically a complete novice.
Thus, he failed to see the true purpose behind Suikazan Fuguki's ninjutsu. Orochimaru had seen through it, but he clearly had no intention of speaking up.
"Suikazan Fuguki is going to lose."
After watching for a while, Orochimaru quickly reached that conclusion. Aside from the Great White Shark, who was easy to deal with, the rest of those fighting Suikazan Fuguki could either fly, burrow underground, regenerate, or had shells for defense. Their survivability was far greater than that Great White Shark's.
Therefore, although Suikazan Fuguki held an absolute advantage for the moment, he had no way to take down another opponent in a short time. Moreover, as time passed, the combat strength he displayed was gradually declining.
With this kind of explosive ability, what mattered in battle was speed. The first burst was always the fiercest, after which it would rapidly weaken.
Thus, if he could not instantly kill or severely wound his opponent from the start, then as long as they delayed him even slightly, defeat would be inevitable.
Sure enough, a few minutes later, after Suikazan Fuguki unleashed one final burst and smashed in the Octopus Ninja's head, he collapsed completely.
Very soon, in less than ten minutes, the barely living Suikazan Fuguki and the Bio-Weapons Samehada were delivered before Vegapunk and Orochimaru.
Vegapunk did not care much about Suikazan Fuguki. He was merely a somewhat taller fat man. In the Pirate World, there were plenty of people taller and more muscular than him.
Samehada, on the other hand, drew quite a bit of Vegapunk's attention. Although this sword had been made from a species of fish that coexisted with the Three-Tails, in Vegapunk's eyes, its value might have been even greater than that of the Three-Tails itself.
Leaving aside everything else, its ability to devour Chakra and even ninjutsu, reverting and absorbing it, was already standard equipment for the Otsutsuki Clan. Though it was far inferior to Nagato's Rinnegan in both absorption capacity and limits, what kind of status did the Rinnegan have? Being comparable to it in even one aspect made Samehada far more impressive.
To some extent, the ability to devour and absorb Chakra could be said to be the core power of the entire Chakra system, as well as the foundation of the Otsutsuki Clan's harvesting of planets.
The Otsutsuki Clan's various other abilities—Amenominaka, Izanami, Eighty Gods Vacuum Attack, Expanding Truth-Seeking Orb... in the end, they were all derivatives of vast amounts of high-quality Chakra piled together. They could not be mentioned in the same breath as the ability to absorb Chakra.
Vegapunk reached out and picked up Samehada, feeding Chakra into it. This blade, which possessed a will of its own, was not very obedient. Although Vegapunk's Chakra was also immense, it apparently did not suit Samehada's taste. Spikes grew from the hilt, but after a burst of grating noise, they only left several pale marks on Vegapunk's hand.
Vegapunk's physical defense was no match for monsters like Big Mom, and he was still a level below Kaido, but only somewhat below those two monsters. Samehada's most terrifying ability was actually its power to absorb Chakra. Its own hardness and sharpness were at most slightly better than ordinary metal, so naturally it could not harm Vegapunk.
"This thing is pretty cocky, huh!" Vegapunk frowned and lightly tapped it with a finger. With crackling sounds, electric sparks burst forth, and Samehada immediately began convulsing. Moments later, it sprawled limply on the ground.
Samehada could absorb Chakra, but what Vegapunk used was pure electricity. Samehada was not immune to that kind of power. This time, it thoroughly experienced what it felt like to be electrofished.
Vegapunk was not about to indulge Samehada. Unlike those other ninjas who regarded their ninja swords as second lives, in Vegapunk's eyes, this thing was merely a rare experimental specimen.
While Vegapunk was electrofishing it, Orochimaru had already made his preparations. He directly collected quite a few cells from Samehada, then began analyzing them.
After fiddling with Samehada a couple of times, Vegapunk left the preliminary work of observing its cells and genes to Orochimaru, then shifted his gaze to Suikazan Fuguki lying nearby.
Suikazan Fuguki's constitution was indeed excellent. Though he was severely wounded all over, had lost at least a thousand milliliters of blood, and his face was utterly pale, he still held on without completely losing consciousness.
"Who... who exactly... are you?"
Hearing Suikazan Fuguki's question, Vegapunk said flatly, "Haven't you understood the situation yet? I should be the one asking you questions now!"
"Heh... do you think... there's anything... for you and me... to talk about...?"
Suikazan Fuguki spoke slowly and with difficulty, pausing between every phrase. Though this fat man was weak as a thread, he did not show much fear.
The ninjas of this world had all kinds of personalities, but those who could rise to high positions all possessed at least some bearing. At the very least, they were not complete cowards terrified of death.
Even Suikazan Fuguki would not have decided to betray Kirigakure if Might Duy had not thoroughly beaten him down back then, turning the Seven Ninja Swordsmen into the Auspicious Three Treasures and completely shattering his psychological defenses.
But that did not mean he was truly all that afraid of death.
