Uchiha Yu nodded helplessly, indicating that he accepted the mission, then saw the messenger off.
He couldn't refuse this job.
Just think about it: the clan head's son was only a month old, yet the clan head was so busy he had no time to care for him. Meanwhile, an ordinary chunin like Yu was resting at home. If he dared refuse, wouldn't Uchiha Fugaku, exhausted and overwhelmed, get angry?
He definitely would. The clan head, consumed by envy, jealousy, and resentment, would surely come charging over in person, grab Yu by the neck, beat him senseless, and then force Obito on him.
"Ugh... I really brought this on myself."
"What are you planning to do, Yu? Teach him properly, or just muddle through for a few days?"
"Of course I'll teach him properly. It concerns my image, so I have to take it seriously."
"Come to think of it, there are quite a few benefits to seriously teaching Obito."
Uchiha Yu activated the Omniscient Mind's Eye and walked through every corner of the house. Only after confirming that no White Zetsu were present did he say to Miwa Masayo, "First, Obito will become the Fourth Hokage's disciple in the future, so I can establish a connection with the Fourth Hokage. Second, it'll make my close relationship with Obito real enough that killing him later will be perfectly reasonable."
Miwa Masayo was completely dumbfounded. Did he even know what he was saying?
Uchiha Yu said in the most serious tone possible, "This is precognition."
"Precognition?"
"Yes, precognition."
"Hehe, you think I'd believe that, meow?" Miwa Masayo put on a deadpan expression and said disdainfully, "Prove it to me. What are we eating tomorrow?"
"...You stupid cat, I'm the one who cooks in this house. I don't need precognition to know what we're eating tomorrow."
"Ah, um... I don't care, meow. Prove it to me."
"I can't prove it. I thought that with our relationship, you'd trust me without proof. Turns out I was being sentimental, actually thinking of sharing my greatest secret with you."
Uchiha Yu's tearful accusation left Miwa Masayo utterly stunned. She hurriedly apologized to her poop-scooper, trying with her clumsy tongue to show that she truly trusted him.
"Let me touch your paw pads, and I'll believe you."
"Okay, okay, no problem—huh?"
"Meow, meow, meow..."
Having her paw pads squeezed was incredibly, incredibly stimulating for the Tabby Cat, but it also jolted her back to her senses.
Miwa Masayo was indeed a little silly, but that did not mean she was actually stupid. What was there left to misunderstand? Whether Uchiha Yu's precognition was real or not, he had taken the chance to trick the Tabby Cat.
Rage rose from her guts, and fire surged from her heart.
This was too much, absolutely too much. Uchiha Yu had mixed "Rika-chan" into her formal name, "Miwa Masayo," tricking the Tabby Cat into responding to it again and again without noticing. She had nearly gotten used to it.
He had even touched the Tabby Cat's ears. Her ears!
Miwa Masayo had endured all of that, but now he was still not satisfied. He had used deception to earn the chance to knead her paw pads. This was outrageous.
This poop-scooper had to go.
Might as well beat him to death.
"Take this, Cat-Cat Fist!"
She could not beat him, of course. Uchiha Yu's strength had not increased very quickly after reaching Foundation Establishment, but his foundation had become increasingly solid. His body's toughness, in particular, had become absurd. Unless Miwa Masayo got serious, her claws could no longer break Yu's facial skin. She even felt that the thickness of his skin was enough to withstand a shuriken's penetration.
Naturally, Uchiha Yu and Miwa Masayo would not fall out over this, and the Tabby Cat came to believe his claim of foreseeing the future.
The reason he used this excuse to reveal part of the "future" was that the Tabby Cat was growing stronger. He felt that the future Miwa Masayo would not be his dependent lifeform, but a cultivation partner who would remain by his side.
A cultivation partner deserved different treatment. So long as it did not directly involve the secrets at the core of his being, there was no need to keep it hidden.
"How could it be you?"
"Big Brother Yu! It's really you!"
"Hello, Uchiha Chunin."
Just as expected, the ones who arrived at the Naka River Training Ground were not only Uchiha Obito, but his entire squad. How could Obito possibly leave Rin behind? And how could Rin disregard the squad's last remaining teammate?
Upon seeing Uchiha Yu again, a suspicious blush appeared on Rin's face.
Uchiha Yu had lived up to his surname. He possessed a truly handsome face.
He was also tall and fair-skinned. As a transmigrator, his soul was far more mature than that of boys in the Ninja World. His every movement carried the steadiness and understanding of a mature man, like a father figure, making him irresistibly attractive to girls of thirteen or fourteen.
Uchiha Obito immediately felt like coughing up blood. Faced with the oldest Uchiha of his generation, he could not even say something like, "Just wait until I awaken the Sharingan, then I'll XXXXX."
Uchiha Yu had no interest in Rin. She was just a skinny, undeveloped little girl. He was not a pedophile, nor was he some lolicon obsessed with every little girl he saw.
Nor was he worried about Rin's feelings. Though the girl's expression made Obito panic, Yu could tell that she merely admired him as a father figure. That feeling would soon fade as she grew older.
Unless the child suffered some sort of harm from her mother, resulting in severe psychological trauma.
"I'll train you for two weeks. The training is simple: tree climbing and water walking, like I told you last time."
Uchiha Yu walked over to a large tree by the river and stepped onto it in a concealing gesture. "You can't use your hands for tree climbing. Instead, gather chakra in the soles of your feet, stick firmly to the trunk, and walk upward one step at a time."
"This trains chakra control, chakra reserves, and core strength. These are the most basic and important things for a ninja."
Uchiha Yu stood parallel to the ground atop the highest branch of the tree, carefully explaining the various techniques and precautions to the three genin before having them practice on their own.
Rin truly deserved to be called a medical ninja. Her chakra control was excellent. On her first attempt, she stood steadily on the trunk and took two steps upward.
The two boys were a little less smooth. Either they put out too much chakra and drove a foot into the trunk, or they suddenly launched themselves several steps away.
Uchiha Yu was not disappointed like Kakashi had been. He himself had not succeeded on his first try either. It was completely normal for boys to fail a few times. Anyone who succeeded on their first attempt possessed frightening talent.
The Third Hokage was not an idiot. Though he was a complete mess politically, his teaching ability and judgment were unquestionably first-rate. Once such a genius entered the Ninja Academy, they could not possibly escape his notice, much less end up in the Forgotten Squad.
He patiently explained the technical points to the three of them, pointed out where they had fallen short and why they had failed, and taught them all sorts of techniques for controlling chakra.
Before long, the third boy successfully walked several steps up the tree. After that, he climbed all the way up, surpassing Rin.
But Uchiha Obito... it was hard to put into words.
He had also successfully taken three steps upward, his face flushing red with excitement. But then he ended up hanging upside down, struggling wildly like a fish hung by its tail. No matter what he did, he could not straighten himself horizontally like his two teammates.
Uchiha Yu stared in astonishment and could not help blurting out, "Obito, how exactly did you graduate from the Ninja Academy?"
