Background / History

Before his rebirth, Shirou lived as Shirou Emiya, a survivor of a childhood fire who inherited Kiritsugu Emiya’s wish to become an Ally of Justice. Unlike Kiritsugu’s willingness to sacrifice a few for the many, Shirou could not ignore suffering directly before him and devoted himself to saving whoever he could. 3

In his final act in that life, Shirou used the Mystic Eyes of Analysis and his remaining life force to stop a nuclear-power-plant meltdown and prevent radioactive contamination. The Counter Force did not accept the contract he had prepared to make, and he died after completing the task without regret. 3 6

He is reborn as Hikigaya Shirou in a peaceful world without Magecraft, Holy Grail Wars, or open conflict. His new parents and sister Komachi give him the family life he never had, leading him to seek happiness for himself rather than living only for an inherited ideal. 1 3

The arrival of Fate/Grand Order changes that peaceful life. Through its summoning system, Heroic Spirits, monsters, and Noble Phantasms begin affecting reality. After threats reach his friends and Komachi, Shirou chooses to seek strength that suits him rather than relying entirely on another Heroic Spirit’s possession. 6 21
