Background

The Ling Clan descended from Ling Zhu, whose master was Azure Water True Person of the Azure Sea Azure Sky Sect. Unable to return to the sect's secret realm after its defeat, Ling Zhu fled to Yan Kingdom and founded a small Qi Training family. 388

By the opening of the story, the clan had existed for 236 years, with seventy-five cultivators and roughly 85,000 mortal clansmen. Its principal livelihood was spirit-plant cultivation, particularly improved spirit-rice varieties developed by generations of clan Spirit Plant Farmers. 1

Ling Yunhong transformed the clan's fortunes by becoming its first Foundation Establishment cultivator. Three years before Chapter 1, he led the clan to seize Lingxiao Mountain from the Gale Demon Wolves; its Second Rank Low Grade spirit vein elevated the Ling Clan from a Qi Training family to a Foundation Establishment family. 1

The clan initially remained vulnerable because its advancement relied heavily on Ling Yunhong, while most members possessed poor aptitude. To avoid stagnation, the leadership expanded beyond spirit plants into alchemy, talisman crafting, weapon refinement, and arrays. 1 4 36

History

Early consolidation

After acquiring Lingxiao Mountain, the clan established a formal elder structure centered on the Council Hall. Ling Yunhong led as Clan Head, while Grand Elder Ling Ruda oversaw the General Affairs Hall and broader clan administration. 2

The clan secured First Rank inheritances in the five principal hundred arts—arrays, weapon refinement, talismans, alchemy, and spirit plants—giving it a foundation comparable to older Foundation Establishment families. 36

During this period, the clan invested heavily in young specialists. Ling Pengyun was trained as both a Spirit Plant Farmer and Weapon Refiner, while the clan commissioned him to produce Azure Bamboo Swords and other magical artifacts for internal use and sale. 64 273

Expansion in Huai River County

After growing stronger, the Ling Clan renegotiated its share of the Sand Soil Mine and pressed the other Huai River County clans following Ling Yunhong's breakthrough to Foundation Establishment Seventh Layer. 296

The clan later destroyed the Tongyang Bai Family to avenge Ling Ruxian's severed arm and reclaim the continuation of the Earthly Fiend Sword Formation. The Bai Clan's ancestral mountain was seized, and its surviving Qi Refinement cultivators scattered. 345 353

Lingxiao Ridge and the Muddy Swamp

Ling Pengyun received the Cloud Stepping Ridge territory and named the clan's eastern holdings Lingxiao Ridge. The territory contained:

The clan subsequently developed the Muddy Swamp Territory, leased spirit veins to allied families and itinerant cultivators, relocated mortals, and established Lingxiao Marketplace. More than 4,000 itinerant cultivators eventually leased spirit veins in Lingxiao Ridge. 474 481 486

Relocation and dynastic rule

The Ling Clan relocated to the former Ten Thousand Beasts Mountain Region, renaming the area Lingxiao Plain, Lingxiao County, and the Lingxiao Mountain Region. It moved more than one million mortals into the region and accepted marriage alliances with local Foundation Establishment families to strengthen control. 612

Following the destruction of the Golden Winged Tiger Clan and the acquisition of vast connected territories, Ling Pengyun and Ling Chengyuan planned the Ling Clan Dynasty. The dynasty incorporated former Golden Winged Tiger, Crimson Gold Bear, Ice Snow Forest, Purple Scorpion Ridge, Lingxiao Mountain Range, and Yan Kingdom territories. 1198

Three years later, the dynasty was established with Ice Snow Valley as its capital. The realm was divided into forty provinces, each supervised through a Lingxiao Province Prefecture staffed by Ling Clan cultivators. 1199

Elder system

The clan originally maintained six elders, with seniority and authority concentrated among the Ru and Yun generations. As the number of Foundation Establishment cultivators rose, the clan restricted elder positions to Foundation Establishment cultivators. 2 566

By the Lingxiao Thousand Stars Lake era, the clan's notable elders included Grand Elder Ling Chengyuan, Second Elder Yan Siyi, Third Elder Ling Penglin, and various specialists responsible for spirit plants, weapon refinement, marketplaces, silkworm farming, and other fields. 566

The War Hall was formed from Ling Chengxia, Ling Wanduo, and other young clansmen specifically selected for battle. Members received focused cultivation support, with Ling Pengyun promising to raise them to Qi Training Late Stage within ten years. 484

Talent development

The clan identifies promising descendants through spiritual-root testing, personal achievement, and hundred-arts aptitude. Children with spirit roots are treated as key clan assets, while those who discover them in mortal settlements receive rewards. 34 181

Those who fail to reach Foundation Establishment by sixty are removed from the Qi Refinement titles, while Foundation Establishment titleholders who fail to form a Golden Core by 150 are also removed. 934

The clan later expanded the Lingxiao Academy to educate its growing youth population and temper the conduct of descendants raised amid the clan's prosperity. 1478

Military Strength

The Ling Clan relies on high-rank cultivators, spirit beasts, demon corpses, spirit ghosts, flying-boat fleets, clan-protection formations, and battle formations.

During the Poison Blood Demon Sect's siege of Lingxiao Mountain, Ling Pengxing acted as clan head and organized the defense against a Foundation Establishment Completion enemy leader, seven Middle-Stage Foundation Establishment demonic cultivators, and more than 700 Qi Training demonic cultivators. 393

Before the later Demon Beast Uprising, Ling Pengyun planned to deploy eleven Golden Core cultivators to defend White Cloud City while retaining three as a hidden reserve for clan territory. 1078
