Background

Selas was born as the “Dark Messiah,” radiating darkness power comparable to a Middle Demon despite being an infant and being unable to control it. Roy recognized his demonic scent and accepted him into his territory after Kha-Beleth’s death. 352

His biological father was Kha-Beleth, whom Roy killed. His biological mother, Isabel, entrusted him to others before dying and was later reborn as a Seraph. Selas has no attachment to Kha-Beleth, whom he never knew, and chose not to seek Isabel after learning of her fate. 423

Cassandra raised Selas from infancy under a nurturing contract, while Roy became his foster father, eventually allowing him to call him “Godfather.” Julia and Benia also became maternal figures in his life, although Benia favored the harsher demonic method of raising him through combat and survival. 421 423

Roy initially regarded Selas as both family and a valuable case for observing the potential of a half-demon raised in the Abyss. He intended to determine whether Selas would embrace his human or demonic side—and considered using him as a vanguard capable of crossing between worlds. 404

Selas normally resembles a young half-demon with features inherited from both Isabel and his demonic lineage. In the Human World, the world’s rejection effect shifts him into a human form without reducing his strength. 421 428

His isolation from other demons, who viewed half-demons as taboo, left him dependent on Cassandra, Fat Tiger, and Roy’s household for companionship. 421 422

His near-capture by Upper Demons and subsequent survival alone in the demon world tempered his impulsiveness. He became more patient and composed through repeated life-or-death battles, though he retained a childlike impatience, curiosity toward unfamiliar things, and a tendency to act before considering the consequences. 423 427 455

Frostfire City Childhood

At nine years old, Selas sneaks out of Frostfire City with Fat Tiger to wait for Roy’s return from war. He recklessly provokes a group of routed demons, is captured by an Upper Demon, and triggers a Flame Demon magical overload before Roy rescues him. 421 422 423

Roy uses the incident to reveal Selas’s origins and decides that he must leave Frostfire City to gain experience. Selas receives Executioner and Calamity before departing with Cassandra through the Abyss Gate. 423 424 426

Demon World Trial

Selas spends two weeks stranded in a demon-infested world, fighting Demonic Creatures, learning to use his weapons, devouring souls for strength, and developing a more cautious survival mindset. He eventually enters a spatial rift leading to the Human World. 427

Devil May Cry World

Upon arriving in the Human World, Selas transforms into his human form and encounters Dante while defending civilians from demons. Unable to adapt to human customs, he causes trouble with the police and initially becomes isolated and homesick. 428 429 430

While investigating Sparda and the Demonic Bible, Selas is captured by Dante, Nero, Trish, and Lady. He gradually trusts Dante’s group after learning they are half-demons like him, stays at Nero’s home, and reveals his mission. 434 437 438

Selas pursues the demon who takes Nero’s arm, encounters V, and becomes involved in the crisis surrounding Urizen and the Qliphoth Tree. He locates the Demonic Bible Stele, creates a summoning array, and later enters the Qliphoth Tree to search for Dante. 440 441 449 454

Frustrated by constant attacks, Selas releases the Plague Disaster and devastates the Qliphoth’s demons, inadvertently harming Nero and V. Later Actions
