Evenson built Umbrella’s plans while dealing with demons, S.H.I.E.L.D., and the arrival of Thor on Earth. The volume ended with Evenson and Melinda confronting Cartesley after he survived gunfire.

Arc 5The Eredar Twins

After defeating Abomination, Evenson built a Soul Engine-powered car and tried to summon powerful demons. The spell freed Aurelles and Saloras from the Dark Harvest Council, but the twins remained suspicious of Evenson’s claim to serve the Legion.

  • Evenson and Hulk defeated Abomination, and Evenson extracted his soul before negotiating with Ross for the corpse.
  • Nick Fury and Pierce learned that Ross had transformed Franski into Abomination, then ordered the corpse destroyed and banned experiments on the other Super Soldier bodies.
  • Evenson traded with Agatha for summoning catalysts and hired Gernos to build a crystal-powered Soul Engine and provide mechanical-limb blueprints.
  • Gernos delivered the engine and blueprints, and Evenson installed Abomination’s soul in his repaired car before taking Sarah for a drive.

Arc 6Umbrella and the Legion

Evenson bound the Eredar Twins to a pact, concealed their motives, and brought them into his plans for Umbrella Corporation. As he worked with S.H.I.E.L.D. around Tony Stark and Justin Hammer, the twins settled into Earth and Sarah advanced a creature-enhancement project for Hammer.

  • Aurelles and Saloras appeared after Agatha summoned them, and Evenson made them agree that all three would approve any decision to offer Earth to the Burning Legion.
  • Evenson took Sarah and the Twins to a motel, explained the threats posed by the Order of Mages, S.H.I.E.L.D., and Asgard, and suspected that the Twins had fallen out of favor with the Legion.
  • Tyler told Evenson that Hubbs had helped kill two mages who came to investigate the demons, while Tyler’s group ambushed and killed Jonas and Clark.
  • Nick Fury sent Evenson to work as Tony Stark’s health consultant and asked him to protect Tony from a possible staged accident, while Natasha joined Tony under another identity.

Sarah used Ivan Vanko’s revenge plot to secure Umbrella Corporation’s plans and funds, while Aurelles and Saloras recruited General Ross to support the Gospel Project. Evenson grew closer to Klayya, then told Nick Fury that the hammer found in New Mexico was Mjolnir, Thor’s weapon.

  • Sarah defeated Ivan, secured his agreement to provide Whiplash blueprints and company funds, and gave him Umbrella Corporation’s neural-link manuscript to develop before the Stark Industries Expo.
  • Ivan’s hacked Iron Soldiers attacked Tony at the Expo, but Tony and Rhodey defeated Ivan, and Natasha shut down War Machine, and Ivan’s self-destruct explosions launched Tony into the sky as he rushed to protect Pepper and Evenson.
  • Aurelles and Saloras persuaded General Ross to consider cooperating with Umbrella Corporation, offered him a path into politics, and showed him the Gospel Project’s Mechanical Neural Link proposal.

Arc 8The Hammer and the Rider

Evenson battled Ghost Rider, bargained with Mephisto, and investigated Thor’s arrival on Earth while helping S.H.I.E.L.D. uncover Loki’s deception. The arc ended with Evenson leading a mission to expose the mysterious Cartesley to sunlight.

  • Evenson and Melinda fought Ghost Rider until Evenson absorbed his Hellfire and left Johnny Blaze unable to transform for about a week.
  • Mephisto offered Evenson several temptations, then bargained to teach him how to evade the Mages’ surveillance in exchange for helping kill Mephisto’s escaped son.
  • Evenson inspected and signed Mephisto’s contract, then identified Thor’s Hammer and explained that Odin had given him authority to handle the matter.
  • Evenson returned with Melinda to the S.H.I.E.L.D. base, where he examined Mjolnir and learned that Thor had broken in the night before.
  • Evenson recognized Loki’s influence over Coulson and Silvett, and Melinda knocked them unconscious so they could recover from the mind control.
  • Evenson met Thor at Jane Fox’s home and convinced him that Odin was alive and Loki had deceived him, then persuaded him to come to the S.H.I.E.L.D. base.
  • Melinda told Evenson that S.H.I.E.L.D. had found Cartesley, and Evenson led a mission to demolish the man’s house and expose him to sunlight.
  • After Cartesley survived a barrage of gunfire, Evenson put on his mask and approached him with Melinda.
