"Has the council meeting ended?"
Christos looked up at the Silver-Haired Ponytail Man before him.
"Yeah."
The Silver-Haired Ponytail Man pursed his lips and tossed the thick draft bill in his hand onto the floor. "It didn't pass."
Christos showed an expression that said he had expected as much. He shrugged, picked up the bill from the desk, and smiled. "Judging by your expression, what new objection did they come up with this time?"
"Do you know what one councilor said?"
The Silver-Haired Ponytail Man rubbed his temples and said speechlessly, "He said that opposing corporate monopolies and breaking up corporations might lead to massive layoffs, raising unemployment and crime rates."
"Isn't that an old excuse?"
Christos asked doubtfully.
"Yeah. I refuted him by saying that corporations were already conducting massive layoffs, and that under their pressure and manipulation, unemployment and crime rates had risen year after year.
"After breaking up the corporations to allow full competition and taking some key facilities back under the Municipal Government, more people would instead gain more jobs. The Municipal Government could also provide employment through work relief programs."
The Silver-Haired Ponytail Man gave a helpless laugh.
"That guy actually said that the rising crime rate was because Prostitutes had too many children. He said the Municipal Government should subsidize Full Body Prosthetic modifications for Prostitutes.
