He raised his head and looked at the young assistant before him. "If Dawn City's citizens think I'm using such violent methods to besiege the city, then even if we deal with Christos, they won't vote for my reelection."
"Mr. President," the young assistant said slowly with his head lowered, "the major mega corporations believe that arranging the Mercenary Groups' operations and deployment costs money. They hope to resolve this matter as soon as possible and focus their efforts on expanding production and trade."
"What, do they think I started this?" The handsome man's expression turned icy as he flipped through the documents. "What are they trying to do? Force Dawn City to implode through a siege and make Christos surrender? Or force Christos to start a civil war? They may achieve their goal, but my approval rating will explode right along with it. If this keeps up, reelection will be almost impossible for me."
The young assistant raised his head and glanced at the handsome man before slowly lowering it again. "Mr. President, if it is wartime, then a wartime president is not subject to term limits and does not need to hold an election."
"Yes, a civil war." The handsome man placed the documents on the desk and tapped the surface. "A civil war. Isn't that exactly what those corporations want? Start a full-scale war, uproot Christos and every opposing force he represents, then let them continue living their lavish, carefree lives."
