He Ao changed the pattern on the back of this card!
How did He Ao know?! How did he do it?! Even lasers couldn't change these patterns!
Endless questions filled Ludo's mind.
And He Ao, looking at his eyes, knew what he was wondering about.
Ordinary damage certainly couldn't change it, but those Martial Arts 'energies' could.
The patterns on the back of the [Queen of Diamonds] and [Two of Diamonds] weren't very different. He just needed to expel those energies from his body, attach them to the toy gun's bullet, time the explosion, and hit the right spot to change the shape of the pattern.
In fact, He Ao didn't completely change the pattern; he just made it tend to be similar to the [Two of Diamonds]. But he guessed that Ludo didn't have the ability to remember such complex patterns and must have relied on machine assistance, and machine recognition definitely had a certain degree of tolerance for error.
Ultimately, he wasn't absolutely sure he could change the pattern until he saw Ludo's increasingly confident expression. Only then did he confirm that his change had taken effect.
Every step he took was planned. For example, if he didn't look at the bottom card, Ludo wouldn't look at the bottom card out of pride. For example, using a nervous demeanor to cover up the fact that he was rapidly breathing in energy, and also rationalizing the subsequent shooting.
This gamble had never been out of his control.
He Ao looked at the confused and bewildered Ludo and smiled. Just as Ludo thought He Ao was going to explain his actions in detail, he heard He Ao softly say, "Secret."
"You!"
Ludo was so angry that blood rushed to his head, and he couldn't stand steady for a moment.
"Young man, the Federal Bureau of Investigation isn't for you," Viktor clapped his hands lightly. "Interested in switching jobs? Although we don't earn much here, a weekly salary of over ten thousand is very easy."
I only get eight hundred a week...
He Ao smacked his lips, then smiled and shook his head, "Mr. Viktor, please let us in first."
"Alright!"
Viktor clapped his hands, summoning a man with a square face. A long scar almost covered the man's entire left face. Viktor instructed the man, "Take them to the highest point of the casino."
The Scarface Man was stunned when he heard Viktor's words. He looked at He Ao and Selina, finally nodded, and extended his hand, "Please follow me, both of you."
"I wish you success in your mission."
Viktor smiled, watched He Ao and Selina leave, and then shifted his gaze to Ludo.
This gamble happened very quickly, less than ten minutes in total. Ludo was now sitting dejectedly in the chair. He saw Viktor's gaze fall upon him and said nervously, "Boss, give me a chance. I can take that kid out off-site."
"A bet is a bet."
Viktor smiled and shook his head, pulling out the dagger stuck in the table.
The Scarface Man led He Ao and the other person into the VIP area, then walked along the edge of the VIP area towards the interior, passing several elevators along the way. They didn't seem to be going up.
"What's the highest point of the casino?"
He Ao leaned next to Selina and asked with some confusion.
"It's the surveillance room," Selina whispered in reply. "'Standing high, seeing everything,' that's casino slang."
He Ao somewhat understood. The casino 'didn't have' surveillance, but they had a 'highest point' from which they could see the entire casino.
While it seemed like a roundabout way of doing things, they could use this to refuse government requests for surveillance access.
As He Ao was contemplating, Selina suddenly leaned closer, her soft chest almost touching He Ao's arm.
Did this girl change her prosthetic body? How is it so much more realistic this time than last?
"Ander, don't be so impulsive in the future. Threatening murder, gambling with your life... your life is still very long, and you have many wonderful things to experience in the future. Don't throw yourself away for one or two pieces of social scum."
Selina didn't notice that she was almost touching He Ao. Her tone at this moment was like a kind and earnest older sister advising her young and reckless younger brother.
He Ao looked at Selina's beautiful face, just giving a slight smile without speaking.
"You're not taking this seriously?" Selina rubbed her forehead. "You've provoked Ludo now. That guy is notoriously vengeful. Even if he's facing trial for selling illegal drugs, according to the efficiency of the Dawn City Court, that will be at least a month from now.
But his revenge might come tonight. How about this, haven't you found a place to stay yet? I'll tidy up the office for you tonight, and you can stay at the Federal Bureau of Investigation for now."
"Thank you," He Ao looked at Selina's serious face, smiled lightly, and then added, "He won't retaliate against me."
"Hmm?"
Selina was a little confused.
Because he won't live past tonight.
He Ao turned his gaze towards the noisy casino VIP area. As early as Viktor's first appearance, He Ao had sensed Viktor's killing intent towards Ludo. The feeling of wanting to kill someone couldn't be hidden, so He Ao conveniently provided Viktor with a reasonable excuse.
As a witness to the gamble, it was reasonable for Viktor to carry out the final stake of the gamble and end the loser's life.
Just then, a red figure entered He Ao's line of sight.
"Selina, I can't help with the surveillance, but I think I've found some other clues. Just contact me if you find Mu Xiu."
Saying that, he rushed directly into the casino.
"Boss, please give me a chance."
Ludo knelt in a cubicle on the negative first floor of the casino. The steel dagger was thrown on the ground. He looked up at Viktor, tears and snot streaming down his face. "I've been managing the casino for you with all my heart while you were in prison for so many years. Even if I didn't have merit, I put in the effort."
"I gave you a chance. You gambled and you lost," Viktor glanced at the dagger on the ground, then took out an exquisite handgun and slowly screwed on a silencer, gradually pressing the muzzle against Ludo's forehead. "I will take good care of your wife and children for you."
Bang—
With a sharp, faint gunshot, Ludo's eyes widened, and he fell onto the cold floor, crimson blood slowly spreading.
"Boss, what about those people who colluded with Ludo and the consortium?"
A thin and sinister-looking man walked out of the shadows behind him.
"Kill everyone who betrayed the gang," Viktor took out a cigar, cut off both ends, and put it in his mouth. "I'm out now, and the Money Rat Gang is still my Money Rat Gang."
The sinister man lit a cigar match and held it under Viktor's cigar. The strong tobacco leaves glowed with flickering red light under the heat of the flame.
"You've worked hard all these years," Viktor sighed. "From now on, I'll trouble you to manage the Crown Casino."
"It's what I should do."
The sinister man answered calmly, then slowly retreated into the shadows.
The dim yellow light shone on Viktor's face, half in light, half in shadow.
Thick smoke from the cigar slowly rose, blurring the boundary between light and dark.
Just then, Viktor suddenly remembered something. He looked at the sinister man. "How many children does Ludo have?"
"He has no children. He is not married. He only has two lovers, one of whom he changes every three months."
The sinister man answered calmly.
The entire room fell into a long silence. After an unknown amount of time, Viktor finally took the cigar out of his mouth.
"This guy asks me for an extra share of the profits every year, saying it's for milk money."
"He himself prefers to drink milk. His lovers are usually other people's wives, or women who have recently given birth and have fuller chests."
The sinister man slowly added.
Viktor: ...
He picked up the gun and shot Ludo's corpse again.
