The hardest part of being an Animagus was not transforming into an animal, but turning back into a human afterward.
Generally speaking, an Animagus's animal form was the same as their Patronus. Pomona's Patronus was a swan, and so was her Animagus form.
But she did not dare try it, even though becoming a bird would give her the ability to fly freely.
When she heard the raven's strange cry, she quickly shut her eyes, closing the slits she had left open. Yet she did not return to her own body.
She floated in darkness, unable to tell up from down or left from right. There was not a sound around her.
Time lost all meaning to her. She could not tell whether a long time had passed or only an instant, until a waft of floral fragrance reached her.
"Do you know what flower this is?" Sirius asked, holding up his soap.
"What?"
"I'm asking what fragrance was added to this bar of soap," Sirius asked again.
"What difference does it make? Your dorm always reeks anyway," Pomona said, covering her nose.
The Gryffindor boys' dormitory in the tower smelled awful even with every window thrown open.
"I told you she wouldn't guess," James Potter said from the edge of his bed. He let a Golden Snitch flit back and forth in front of him, snatched it out of the air with quick reflexes, then released it again. "Her nose isn't as good as yours."
Remus lay sickly on his bed. He had just gone through a full-moon transformation and looked as though he had suffered a serious illness. Pete was looking after him, wiping the cold sweat from his forehead with a towel.
How did I end up here?
