At Kettleburn's shout, everyone raised their glasses to celebrate his winning the 1977 Hogsmeade Best Disability Award.

With only one arm and half a leg left, he had beaten Tom, the hunchbacked owner of the Leaky Cauldron, because Tom did not live in Hogsmeade.

On the second Monday of April, James Potter returned to school as well, once again appearing everywhere hand in hand with Sirius Black.

In fifth year, James had played a "joke" on Severus Snape beneath the beech tree in front of so many people. With so many witnesses present, he had not been expelled then, much less over this incident, which had barely any witnesses at all.

Instead, another rumor spread through the school: for some unknown reason, Severus Snape had tried to provoke the Whomping Willow and had nearly been severely injured by it. James Potter had saved him, and his scars were proof.

People readily believed it, because James's scars were real. Many had seen them when he changed in the Quidditch locker room. His teammates mocked Snape for overestimating himself, while becoming even more wary of the Whomping Willow.

The only one who had not returned to classes was Remus Lupin. He had neither taken part in what happened after the fifth-year OWLs ended nor known anything about the sixth-year incident from beginning to end. Since Lucius Malfoy had come to the school, Severus had stopped mentioning the lawsuit. He merely grew closer to the "little Death Eaters," even skipping Slughorn's Slug Club parties.
