Background

Firefly was one of only two survivors of a spaceship crash on an uncharted planet. Despite catastrophic injuries, she pulled Liu Bai away from the crash site and continued fleeing with him. Her injuries included ruptured internal organs, active bleeding, and Entropy Loss Syndrome; her estimated remaining lifespan was initially only seven hours. Liu Bai used his Dietary Therapy mod to stabilize her through healing food, reducing her condition to mild Entropy Loss Syndrome and minor internal bleeding 1 2 3.

After entering Liu Bai's Serenitea Pot, Firefly became one of its earliest residents. She helped maintain their home, worried over Liu Bai's safety and employment, and gradually became attached to the stability of their domestic life 18 19 49.

Her identity as Sam, a former Stellaron Hunter and pilot of the Glamoth Iron Cavalry's Firefly IV Strategic Assault Armor, was eventually recognized by Kafka. Firefly had kept this past hidden, but Kafka regarded her withdrawal from the Stellaron Hunters as leaving after obtaining what she wanted rather than betrayal 206 207.

Kafka's arrival unsettled Firefly, particularly after she learned that Elio's script involved Liu Bai and predicted his unnatural death. Firefly investigated Kafka's intentions, arranged surveillance with Yelan, and resolved to protect Liu Bai outside the safety of the Serenitea Pot 208 218.

As Liu Bai's group expanded, Firefly allowed research access to her damaged armor and offered her technical knowledge to assist with its study. Ruan Mei later confirmed that Firefly's Entropy Loss Syndrome had no immediate cure and estimated that it could progress within roughly ten years without careful management 262 314 315.

Firefly appears as a youthful girl whose gentle, sweet demeanor contrasts sharply with the stern, warrior-like gaze she showed while escaping the crash site 1 2.

Firefly is compassionate, trusting, and unusually resilient. She accepted Liu Bai's roasted weeds without hesitation because she believed he had no reason to deceive her, even while badly injured. Her willingness to trust is balanced by the decisiveness of a trained survivor: she was able to carry Liu Bai from the crash site despite injuries that should have left her unable to move 2.

Having spent much of her life as a weapon, Firefly struggles with the meaning of her past and with being seen as Sam rather than herself. She ultimately chooses to move forward instead of remaining defined by that past 159 207.

Her feelings for Liu Bai often make her insecure and impulsive, especially around perceived romantic rivals such as Kafka. Nevertheless, she gradually becomes more accepting of Liu Bai's other relationships and shows increasing emotional maturity toward companions such as Guinaifen and Silver Wolf 263 626 859.
