After many days, Ailin once again experienced the sensation of a school bell ringing in his head after class.
Fortunately, this time he did not collapse onto a monster's foul-smelling corpse.
The Witcher Apprentice opened his eyes and saw Vesemir looking at him with concern.
In a daze, Ailin suddenly realized that he had only been in this world for a little over ten days.
With fighting and killing every day, and the threat of death hanging over his head, he felt as though he had been struggling to survive in the witcher world for years.
"Ailin, are you all right?" Vesemir gently patted his shoulder.
The Witcher Apprentice shook his head and stood up.
"Don't worry, Master Vesemir. I'm fine."
The Witcher Master hesitated for a few seconds upon hearing that, then suddenly said:
"The experimental records related to the Witcher's Eye are with Lady Vesemir."
"Though I have not read those records, such powerful abilities most likely come with severe consequences."
"If you can avoid using it in the future, do so."
Ailin heard the concern in Vesemir's voice. Warmth filled his heart, and he nodded.
"Don't worry, Master Vesemir. I understand."
Vesemir nodded, then turned to look at the Drowners King's enormous corpse and said with feeling:
"Ailin, perhaps I can already call you a Witcher Master."
The Witcher Apprentice followed Vesemir's gaze.
Even in death, the oppressive aura surrounding the Drowners King had not faded.
Its headless body lay there like a small blue mountain.
As Ailin walked toward the Drowners King, the closer he came, the more the air around him seemed to gradually stagnate.
Feeling the increasingly powerful pressure around him, Ailin could not help but sigh.
"Chaos Magic really favors monsters!"
"Not every monster receives such favor," Vesemir paused before saying, "among the Large Monsters I have encountered, those blessed to this extent can be counted on one hand."
Without waiting for Ailin to speak, Vesemir looked seriously into his eyes and continued:
"Ailin, perhaps you have not yet realized that this is a miracle."
"There are Witcher Masters in this world capable of hunting dragons and Higher Vampires, but there has never been a witcher apprentice like you, one who had not passed all the trials yet could already be called a master."
Hearing Vesemir's praise, Ailin modestly said:
"I cannot be called a master. Everything was thanks to your..."
"There is no need to be modest, Ailin." Vesemir interrupted him. "I know very well what role I played in this battle. Without your final strike, I would certainly have been defeated before sunset."
The honor of hunting monsters was of vital importance to witchers.
This large monster had not been slain by Vesemir. No matter how powerful it was, Vesemir was unwilling to claim credit for it.
Seeing this, Ailin was unwilling to argue with Vesemir over the matter any longer.
He looked at the enormous mountain of flesh before him and changed the subject.
"Master Vesemir, how should we deal with this monster?"
"I have never seen this kind of monster either." Vesemir also had a headache over it. "How about we drag it all back?"
Ailin looked blankly at the mountain-like corpse and muttered:
"Drag it all back?"
"How?"
About half an hour later.
Ailin carried the Drowners King's head and followed behind the Witcher Master.
Vesemir carried the Drowners King's corpse, its enormous shadow covering a large area around the witcher apprentice.
Even completely engulfed in that shadow, Ailin still found it hard to believe.
On one hand, Vesemir had effortlessly hoisted a corpse weighing at least a ton onto his back.
On the other hand, he was curious.
What kind of monster was the farmer who had managed to impale such a powerful witcher with a pitchfork?
Although Ailin and Vesemir had escaped the pursuing drowner swarm that afternoon and accomplished the astonishing feat of slaying the large monster Drowners King,
neither matter had actually taken much time.
When they returned to Kaer Morhen, it was only around three or four in the afternoon.
The winter sun was red but not dazzling, shining slantwise over the ancient castle and casting vast patches of shadow.
At this hour, there were not many people in Kaer Morhen.
With witchers' constitutions, banquets that began at noon were often only just reaching their most spirited, boisterous stage.
Thus, when the two stepped through the castle gates, they did not attract much attention from the other witchers.
But once people began watching, they never left.
Curious, shocked, clamoring...
The noisy voices drew even more curious witchers over.
Only when one of Vesemir's old friends pushed through the crowd did the commotion quiet down.
"Vesemir, what the hell is this? Didn't you take our Drowner Killer out to kill drowners?"
Witcher Dante held a jug of wine, and the moment he spoke, the smell of alcohol washed over them.
"Show some respect. You should address Ailin as a Witcher Master now." Vesemir's muffled voice came from beneath the corpse.
"What?"
Dante rubbed his face, thinking he had misheard.
Bang!
Vesemir threw the corpse onto the ground and loudly declared:
"I said, you should address Ailin as a Witcher Master now."
Seeing the surrounding witchers all looking utterly confused, Vesemir sighed and added:
"This large monster was slain by Ailin."
Crack!
Witcher Dante was so shocked that he crushed the wine jug in his hand. The crisp fragrance of alcohol instantly spread through the air.
After several seconds of silence, the watching witchers erupted, their clamor resounding throughout Kaer Morhen.
Most witchers knew Vesemir's character.
Like the chief, he was a man who valued honor and would never lie about who a kill belonged to.
From the size of this unknown monster, they could also confirm that it was a true large monster.
Moreover, any witcher with a little experience could judge from the pressure emanating from the corpse that even among Large Monsters, this one was far from the weakest.
But...
How was that possible?
Since when could even a witcher apprentice slay a large monster?
This was far too surreal!
Dante opened his mouth, his gaze shifting to the witcher apprentice hiding behind the Drowners King's head.
"Ailin... how did you do it?"
"The Witcher's Eye, Dante. Ailin has the Witcher's Eye."
"He is a born witcher!"
