Witchers and Sorcerers Are Both Elves
When Ailin entered the castle hall, he found Vesemir staring at Ida Emin.
He couldn't quite describe the emotion, but it wasn't anger or resistance; it was more like mutual pity.
He squinted, trying to see more clearly.
The two most powerful Sorceress of the Northern Continent, upon hearing the sound of the door opening, tacitly averted their gaze.
"Ailin, you've finally arrived!" It was Vesemir who spoke.
He stood with Aristo and Dante by the fireplace in the dining room, keeping a respectful distance from the two Sorceress.
Are you all going?
Ailin was somewhat surprised to see the three Witcher Master fully armed.
He remembered that the only monsters he had to face during the Second Mutation quest were a few water ghosts, a few Black Panther Statue Guardian, a few gargoyles, and a few White Widow Centipede to gather the materials for the Second Mutation. That was all.
The Black Panther Statue Guardian and the gargoyles are certainly not easy to deal with, but since Geralt didn't trespass on his own, Ada Emin and Vesemir will definitely "ask" them about the mechanisms inside.
The only real threats are the water ghost and the White Widow Centipede; he and Vesemir are more than enough to handle them.
Has something changed in the lab?
"We're not going," Vesemir glanced at Vesemir and Ida Emin and quickly shook his head. "The person you're traveling with this time is Ms. Ida Emin, we...we..."
"They're just meddling." Ada Emin's voice was languid and her tone blunt.
The three Witcher Master of the School of the Wolf looked at each other in bewilderment. Vesemir and Aristo opened their mouths, but ultimately said nothing.
Upon hearing this, Dante, who was already feeling listless, became even more depressed.
"I'll find a way." Ailin approached and whispered a word of comfort, then, remembering Vesemir's words, looked at Ms. Ida Emin, "Vesemir said that this time it's the two of us working together?"
Aida Emin raised an eyebrow. "Your Vesemir... teacher, since she doesn't trust me to stay in Kaer Morhen alone, she'll have to accompany you on this trip."
The female elf paused deliberately when addressing Vesemir.
The three Witcher Master of the School of the Wolf didn't notice this, but Ailin subconsciously looked at Vesemir.
To be honest, this was the first time Ailin had met Vesemir since that confession.
In the past few days, he has often imagined what the first meeting after he confesses will be like, and how he should behave to be considered normal.
Unexpectedly, after we met again, everything was uneventful, as if that confession had never happened.
No!
It's still different!
Vesemir's gaze towards him was more loving and gentle, and the heavy-hearted feeling that she often noticed in the past was gone, as if...
Having let go of certain burdens, there's an inexplicable sense of detachment from worldly affairs...
"It's just that Soyer can't do without me," Vesemir nodded to him and said softly.
Ailin raised an eyebrow, knowing that this meant Ida Emin knew about their relationship.
The relationship between Vesemir and Ida Emin is rather unusual; they are almost on the same level as Ianna, the High Priest of the Temple of Melitele and Iana's goddaughter.
"Soyer... Chief, how is the situation now?" Ailin thought for a moment and then asked.
"Not good." Vesemir shook her head slightly, but the gloom on her face was much less than when she had just returned to Kaer Morhen.
"The Second Mutation should be effective," Ailin said somewhat stiffly, then looked at Ada Emin, "Ms. Ada Emin, is there anything else we need to prepare?"
"If not, let's set off now."
Ida Emin glanced at Vesemir, nodded, and waved her hand.
An orange-red portal appeared in the hall.
Ada Emin's portal skills were significantly better than Vesemir's; the noise when the portal appeared was minimal, completely inaudible to normal people.
I just don't know if there's any enhancement in terms of teleportation distance.
"I'm leaving now. Stay tuned for my good news."
Ailin took a deep breath, his gaze sweeping over the faces of Vesemir, Aristo, and Dante, finally lingering for a moment on Vesemir's face before resolutely turning back and following Ada Emin toward the portal.
"Ailin!"
Just before he was about to step into the portal, Vesemir's cool voice suddenly rang out from behind him.
He turned around and saw the Sorceress purse her slightly pale lips.
"Ailin, Soyer told you not to feel burdened, that everyone has their own destiny."
"If something is impossible, there's no need to force it..."
Vesemir's voice was very soft, as if she was trying her best not to burden him, but the struggle in her tone was more and more obvious the more she tried to hide it.
"There is hope."
Ailin paused, left a sentence, and then turned and walked into the silent portal.
The elven sage's portal was no different from Vesemir's, or from his own.
The only difference is that the journey through the void and the magnificent darkness takes a little longer.
Ailin observed the "bridge" structure formed by starlight beneath his feet, hoping to gain some inspiration for improving the portal structure.
Of course, one's own learning cannot be like that of members of the Monster Hunting Legion, who improve themselves and increase the experience needed to level up to the next level.
However, some minor improvements can be applied not only after reaching the corresponding level, but also by learning from others.
"You performed much better than the average Witcher."
Just as Ailin was learning the stable structure of the Starbridge, the voice of Ada Emin suddenly rang in his mind.
"You mean portal syndrome?"
Ailin raised an eyebrow. "In this respect, I am indeed somewhat different from ordinary witchers."
"This is no small difference..." Ada Emin glanced back at him. "I've never seen any Witcher navigate the portal passages as easily as you, as... as comfortable as a fish in water..."
"Eran, Anahad, and even Soyer of Larvik are no good."
"The more valiant they are outside, the more pathetic they become here."
"Have you met Eran and Anahad?" Ailin asked, intrigued.
"Of course, I watched them grow up," Ada Emin said without turning around. "Those were truly unforgettable days."
Watching them grow up... Ailin was stunned when she heard this.
There doesn't seem to be any mention of it in the records of the School of the Wolf...
"Are you curious why my name isn't on the lab book?" Ada Emin chuckled, guessing what he was thinking.
Ailin didn't deny it, nodded, and said, "Vesemir said you're not good at Xenogeneic Mutagenesis."
"I'm not really good at it," Ada Emin did not deny, "Because I'm not involved in the modification of the human body, but in other areas."
"In what aspect?"
"Signs and swordsmanship..."
"Signs?" Ailin paused, exclaiming in surprise.
Swordsmanship is not difficult to understand, because so-called sages and elven masters are naturally all sorts of people, proficient in things like forging, sewing, divination, and so on, not to mention melee skills that human sorcerers can learn.
But Cosimo Malaspina and Alzure were both sorcerers, so why would they ask an elf to participate in the modification of magic?
Ada Emin smiled. "You don't know enough about warlocks."
"Ever since the last 'Mage King,' Pure White Pharad, died in the warlocks' civil war, warlocks have rarely encountered situations requiring combat in their daily lives."
"At that time, the main opposing forces were humans and elves. Most warlocks were descended from us, Ain Siddi, so the secular rulers of the human world were also very opposed to warlocks participating in the war."
"Later, it was because the violence controlled by sorcerers was too dangerous for the rulers."
"Only as a last resort will warlocks who have become somewhat disobedient due to the formation of the Brotherhood of Sorcerers be recruited."
"Therefore, elemental spells, especially offensive spells, are becoming less and less useful for an academic sorcerer."
"In order to enter the higher halls of sorcerer, they focus more on spells that can be used in certain practical fields, such as alchemy, or in research fields, such as Xenogeneic Mutagenesis."
"Therefore, Cosimo Malaspina and Alzure, well, Alzure in the Witcher project, are not very proficient in elemental magic."
"I participated in the modification of the Quen, Igni, Ald, Yrden, Otherrhop, and Axii Sign you are using now."
"Especially the Axii Sign ..."
Ada Emin drew an inverted triangle in mid-air. "Do you know what the original spell of this sign is?"
"What spell?" Ailin asked politely.
The Sorceress turned around and gave him a "you know what's good for you" look, saying, "Ida Emin's Mind Control."
She did not explain the specific effects of the spell.
However, spells that are named after a warlock generally have to meet several conditions. First, they must be original; second, they must have widely recognized power; and third, the warlock himself must be willing to use them.
Just like the "Vesemir's Human Transformation" which is known as the Leech Transfiguration Spell.
In other words, this spell, named "Ada Emin's Mind Control Spell," is at least a signature spell endorsed by Ada Emin herself.
Considering the effects of the Axii Sign, it's likely that Ada Emin discovered the location of the laboratory from Thomas Morru's mind using this mind-controlling technique.
Yes, that's a pretty powerful spell.
Ailin was a little envious.
However, unique spells are rarely passed on to outsiders, and Ada Emin is not Vesemir, so Ailin only looked on with envy before changing the subject:
"Then why is there no record of you in the School of the Wolf's remaining records?"
Ada Emin paused for a few seconds, then asked, "How do you think the Witcher Conclave fell apart?"
Upon hearing this, Ailin was stunned. "Isn't it because monster resources are becoming increasingly scarce, yet the number of demon hunters in the Witcher Conclave is increasing?"
Ada Emin scoffed dismissively. "Do you really think that the Witcher Conclave, with just a hundred or so demon hunters, can wipe out all the monsters in the entire Northern Continent, and that even Anahad has to compete with his companions for prey?"
"Isn't that right?" Ailin was truly dumbfounded this time.
He had heard about the history of the Witcher's demise since childhood, and had also read related materials in his previous life.
The relevant content is that the number of monsters has decreased due to the large number of monster hunters, resulting in a gradual shortage of quests from the Witcher Conclave.
Ultimately Witcher Conclave's disintegration was triggered by a Witcher killing the prey that Anahad had commissioned, which angered Anahad and led to Anahad's own death.
As for how the various schools of Witcher split up, each school may have its own version, but the origins are all the same.
"No," Ada Emin shook her head, "Or rather, not entirely, only a very small part."
"Of course, Anahad is a scoundrel, that's for sure."
"The Witcher Conclave did indeed receive fewer and fewer missions in the later stages, but the real reason was not that the monsters of the Northern Continent had been wiped out."
"Why is that?" Ailin had some guesses in his mind.
Ada Emin glanced at him, her eyes filled with disdain. "Because the human nobles tacitly limit their commissions."
"The Witcher Conclave never died because of their duty to hunt monsters, but because humans tightened the noose around their necks bit by bit."
"Doesn't it look alike?"
She turned around and gazed intently into Ailin's eyes.
"What does it resemble?" Ailin swallowed hard.
"It's very similar to what the School of the Wolf is going through now," Ada Emin gazed at the Starbridge, into the deep, unseen darkness, as if she could see the School of the Wolf's future in it. "They were all given important roles at the beginning, and they were all gradually replaced. If it weren't for you, the Child of Miracle would have ended up falling apart just like that."
"Ailin," she looked back and met his gaze, "A sword can be cleaned when it's dirty, sharpened when it's dull, and reforged when it's broken. If it's cherished, it can be passed down for thousands of years, but if it's not valued, it might be casually broken on a stone the day it was forged, and rusted away by time in the grass and deep ravines..."
"The Witcher is the sharpest sword in human hands. Only human beings can render a sword useless."
"What exactly are you trying to say?" Ailin couldn't help but ask.
Ida Emin did not answer; she turned and continued walking forward, continuing her previous statement:
"The reason why the Witcher Conclave's commissions are restricted is that most of the Order's Witchers are of good character and helped Ain Siddy, who was driven to the edge of the world by humans."
"When the Witcher program first started, relations between humans and Ain Siddi improved, so naturally nothing happened."
"But as time went on, the greed of the short-lived species became uncontrollable. They wanted more, and they wanted the Ian Siddi to be extinct."
"At that time, the actions of the Witcher Conclave naturally aroused the dissatisfaction of some nobles. They found that the Witcher Conclave was no longer a useful sword, so they plotted to destroy it..."
"I am also a short-lived human," Ailin couldn't help but interrupt.
"Oh, really?" Ada Emin didn't turn around. "Are you really still human?"
"There are humans who can live for three or four hundred years, have vertical pupils, and can even cast spells?"
"Warlock..."
"Warlocks are human too?" Ada Emin retorted. "Rather than warlocks and witchers being human, it's more accurate to say that we are Ain Siddi. Look at how similar we are to humans; we're far more similar than you are to humans. Besides..."
She paused in her tracks:
"Do humans themselves truly acknowledge you, and recognize warlocks and witchers as their own kind?"
