The Gap Between Witcher Apprentices
"Bang—"
A strange noise.
The witchers looked in the direction of the sound.
An orange portal appeared next to a larch tree.
The portal had barely stabilized when a figure wearing a red hood rushed out.
After failing to find the person he was looking for, the man ignored the several witchers around him and headed towards Killer Lake.
"Vesemir!"
"This is the Trial of the Mountains for 'Witchers'."
The chief stepped forward, blocking the red figure, and gave a soft but firm reminder.
Upon hearing this, the hooded figure paused, then removed the hood.
A refreshing scent of oranges mixed with cardamom wafted over.
Her messy, fiery red hair partially obscured her eyes, and her brows were furrowed on her fair, flawless face.
It is indeed the sorceress Vera.
She glanced at the chief without expression, Soyer shook her head vigorously.
So he struggled to stop, took a few deep breaths, and calmed his disordered breathing.
"Smack!"
A snap of the fingers.
A gentle breeze swept by, quickly restoring Vesemir's hair to its neat state.
In the blink of an eye.
The Sorceress regained her former exquisite appearance.
"Good morning, Lady Vesemir."
The white-haired Witcher bowed slightly in greeting, and the other Witcher Master followed suit.
The Sorceress nodded in return, but her mind was clearly not on these boring witchers.
After gazing towards Killer Lake for a while, she looked at Soyer beside her.
"You're too late. The apprentices should already be in the middle of Killer Lake by now."
Soyer tactfully reported on the apprentices' trial progress, then paused and offered words of comfort:
"It's alright, they'll be back before dinner."
The Sorceress nodded expressionlessly, then turned her head back to look in the direction of Killer Lake.
His eyes were filled with worry.
"Splash~ Splash~"
His hands, clad in leather armor, parted the lake water in front of him.
A slight twist of the waist muscles generates enough forward thrust.
The four witcher apprentices undergoing the trial, led by Ailin, are arranged in a three-person formation from front to back.
Even with the Killer Whale Potion in hand, Ailin did not let her guard down and assigned them specific areas to focus their attention on.
in case.
Fortunately, everything went as Ailin predicted.
With the help of the Killer Whale, the water ghosts were kept far away by Ailin and the others before they even saw them.
None of them could spot them, let alone sneak up on them.
There's no need to be suspicious or wary of monsters lurking in the shadows; Ailin and his companions are much faster than any of the other witcher apprentices who participated in the trial before them.
In just under half an hour, they had already swum halfway across the distance, which would have taken at least an hour and a half in the past Trial of the Mountains.
The only drawback is that the Killer Whale Potion is consumed too quickly.
In the past half hour, everyone except Ailin has consumed two bottles of Killer Whale.
but.
"As long as it passes, that's fine," Ailin thought.
Of course, the main reason he didn't feel bad was that the materials for making the potions were all sponsored by the Sorceress.
"I wonder where Lady Vesemir is now?"
The witcher apprentice felt a strange sense of regret when he thought of the Sorceress.
For some reason, he especially wanted Vesemir to witness the moment he passed the Trial of the Mountains.
"Mmm... mmm..."
The sudden sound of crying from the shore immediately put Ailin on alert.
"Ailin, what's that sound?"
Bont poked his head out and asked in confusion.
"Shh!"
Ailin directed the apprentices to stop and listen attentively.
They were in a narrow spot in Killer Lake, not far from the shores on either side.
A layer of mist had appeared on the lake surface at some unknown time.
"Ugh... help me... ugh... help me..."
It was a child crying for help.
Ailin and the others looked in the direction of the sound.
The trees on the right bank were obscured by the milky white fog.
In the dim light, it appeared that a child was trapped in the bushes.
"Ailin, someone is calling for help!"
Bont cried out in surprise and was about to swim over, with Huus and Fred anxiously following, but Ailin pulled them back.
"This is not human!"
"It's a monster's trap!"
Ailin repeatedly stopped the apprentices from going.
No wonder these apprentices acted so impulsively; the voice was so real and full of emotion.
Perhaps it also contains seductive magic.
If Ailin hadn't known the plot of the final trial in the game, he too would have been fooled.
Lakeside, mist, and a secluded, deserted valley.
With all the necessary elements combined, it's definitely the Foglet.
"... Help me... Help me..."
The cries for help grew louder, as if the "child" had noticed Ailin and the others' hesitation and was eagerly asking them for help.
"That voice must be some kind of enchantment magic."
Even though Ailin already knew the truth, he couldn't help but want to rush to the rescue, let alone the other apprentices whose attributes were much worse than his.
They couldn't help but swim towards the shore, their eyes filled with confusion and helplessness.
Damn it, didn't anyone check the environment along the way before the Trial of the Mountains?
Seeing the other apprentices being misled, Ailin couldn't help but curse inwardly.
This is definitely not something that should be included in the Trial of the Mountains.
Fog-like invisibility, swift speed, lightning-fast claw attacks, and now even this distracting charm magic.
Aside from him, who was somewhat confident in his ability to deal with the Foglet, the other apprentices would inevitably meet with certain death.
In that brief moment of contemplation, the three apprentices had already swum three or four meters.
They caught up quickly.
"Slap! Slap! Slap!"
Three slaps landed on the back of their heads in succession, waking them up.
Before they fall into the enchanted state again, have them quickly keep an eye on each other, watch out for the movements of the nearby water ghosts, and swim to the other side of the riverbank.
"Ailin, what about you?" Huus scratched the back of his head and couldn't help but ask.
Ailin gritted his teeth and said hatefully, "I'll go and kill this Foglet."
He could, of course, ignore the Foglet and swim directly to the Old Spearhead's cave.
But Killer Lake is still nearly halfway there, and with three teammates who could be charmed at any moment, they also have to watch out for the lurking water ghosts underwater.
He should just rush up and kill the Foglet now.
This is at least much better than facing hordes of water ghosts in the water.
Just as Ailin Huus was speaking, Bont and Fred couldn't resist swimming towards the "child".
"Slap! Slap!"
Quickly wake them up.
Ailin spoke very quickly and fluently:
"Okay, listen to me! Keep talking to each other, and if one of you stops, slap him awake, understand?"
Seeing his resolute expression, the three apprentices exchanged glances and had no choice but to agree.
This was something they had agreed on last night: during the Trial of the Mountains, everything would be under Ailin's command.
Seeing this, Ailin nodded in satisfaction, then pierced through the thick fog and quickly swam towards the "child".
"It seems like we can't help at all."
Watching Ailin's departing figure, Fred felt somewhat discouraged.
He had always been a competitive person, and after seeing Ailin kill the water ghost with a steel sword, he was the first to try it himself.
The result was only a fracture and dislocation.
Watching Ailin disappear into the distance, seemingly unaffected.
Fred couldn't help but sigh inwardly.
Is the difference between Witcher Apprentices really that big?
