Cho Chang raised a hand in introduction. "Lee Jordan, a third-year Gryffindor student and a well-known Quidditch commentator."
"Hehe! I'm not that famous!" Lee Jordan said as he stepped into the compartment. "Have you done Professor Flitwick's assignment?"
"I only realized after getting home yesterday that I'd left my newly bought textbooks in Africa. They won't be mailed to the school until tomorrow. And I haven't written a single word of the preview worksheet Professor Flitwick assigned!"
The corners of Cho Chang's lips curved into an ambiguous smile, as though she were saying: See? This is what Gryffindor students are like. Homework carries no weight in their hearts.
Cho Chang patiently explained, "You should ask someone else. I'm a second-year, and Vizet here is a New Student this Academic Year."
"Cho Chang! I know you!" Lee Jordan wore a teasing expression. "In that match last Academic Year, Cedric failed to catch the Golden Snitch because he got distracted looking at you, didn't he?"
"Cough, cough, cough..." Cho Chang's cheeks reddened as though she had choked, and she coughed repeatedly. "Did you mistake me for someone else...? I'm a Ravenclaw student."
Lee Jordan raised his brows high, looking indignant. "As a commentator, it's my duty to capture the best moments of a match!"
"You were wearing that Tutshill Tornados uniform back then too. I remember it perfectly—I can't possibly be wrong! I swear on this Pouch Spider!"
"But I still suggest you ask someone else." Cho Chang hurriedly cut him off. "We really can't help you."
"Then can I stay here for a while?" Lee Jordan sighed. "Once Fred and the others get on the train, I'll see whether they brought their textbooks."
"Suit yourself." Cho Chang did not refuse.
Vizet asked, "Fred? Do you mean Fred Weasley?"
Lee Jordan brightened immediately. "Yes! That's him! Fred and George are twins, and I'm one of their closest friends! You know them too?"
Vizet nodded. "The Weasley family helped me before, so I know them."
"So you're acquaintances!" Lee Jordan let out another long sigh and began complaining. "I really don't want to waste all my time doing homework. This Pouch Spider's venom is amazing!"
"When I was in Africa, I used this Pouch Spider for experiments. Even if your tongue only touches the tiniest bit of its venom, it'll swell up right away!"
"If Fred and the others come over, we can do experiments together! If it weren't for this damn homework... What a shame. I've asked several people already, but nobody would lend me their homework to copy!"
"Wouldn't lend it..." Vizet noticed Lee Jordan's pocket again. "You want to borrow homework to copy, and your payment is letting them touch the Pouch Spider?"
Lee Jordan nodded repeatedly. "Of course! This isn't an ordinary Pouch Spider. Its venom contains magic—it's incredibly rare! As rare as wizards among Muggles!"
Vizet finally understood why no one would lend Lee Jordan their homework.
Touching a spider... It sounded creepy no matter how he thought about it.
This Black guy was quite the restless sort.
Perhaps it was some racial talent, but he had an especially strong urge to talk.
Once Lee Jordan learned that Vizet knew Fred and the others, he immediately acted familiar and began chattering away, introducing each House.
"Gryffindor is obviously the best House! Do you know Headmaster Dumbledore? He's one of us Gryffindors! We're the best at everything!"
"Er... Ravenclaw is pretty good too. If only Cho Chang were in my year. Ravenclaw homework has the highest accuracy rate!"
"Hufflepuff students are all very friendly. That heartthrob Cedric... They eat the most food too. I really don't know where they get it all!"
"Slytherin? It produces Dark Wizards and is the worst House. He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named was a Slytherin. Those people will do anything to win the House Cup, and their Head of House is a point-deducting maniac!"
"He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named... That title is rather strange." Vizet felt that it sounded familiar.
He suddenly remembered. It was one of Voldemort's real aliases, though he was generally called "the Noseless Freak" or "the Two-Hole Socket."
"That name wasn't funny back then." Lee Jordan swallowed, and his voice became strained. "He was the most dangerous Dark Wizard in history!"
"I heard from my father that the people He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named killed were enough to form an Inferi Army! Even 'He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named' was only a substitute name, because we didn't dare speak his real name."
"He was actually that dangerous?" Vizet frowned. "I've only heard of Grindelwald... He seemed to be a very dangerous Dark Wizard too."
Vizet had learned the name Gellert Grindelwald from the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them films.
At least in the films, Grindelwald's combat ability had been extremely formidable. Even when facing Aurors from the Magical Congress alone, he had handled them with ease.
"That was much longer ago." Lee Jordan shrugged. "Headmaster Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald. That's all I know, but you definitely can't go wrong choosing Gryffindor!"
After finishing wiping down her Flying Broomstick, Cho Chang said, "If you're interested in Grindelwald and He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, you can read Modern History of Magic. It has more detailed accounts."
Soon, it was half past ten. Lee Jordan, parched from talking, finally quieted down and began trying to make up his homework.
"The Mending Charm... The spell is spelled R... R what was it again? Repair! It's a spell used to fix things... Who invented it in England again? I think I read about it before..."
Cho Chang had buried her head in a book titled Quidditch Through the Ages, her shoulders trembling violently. Every now and then, muffled snorting sounds could be heard.
Vizet searched through the books in his mind and found The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 3.
As long as Vizet intentionally searched for relevant text among the books recorded in his mind, he could locate the corresponding passages at astonishing speed, as easily as searching keywords on a computer.
The Standard Book of Spells series had seven volumes, corresponding to the seven years of Charms Class at Hogwarts.
That was why, when he had been reading books for free at Flourish and Blotts, he had simply recorded all seven volumes.
He read aloud from the description in The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 3. "Mr. Jordan, the spell for the Mending Charm is 'Reparo.'"
"If you need the full explanation of the magic, it is: 'A spell capable of seamlessly repairing most damaged objects.'"
"Are you sure?" Lee Jordan's eyes lit up as though he had spotted a lifeline, and he immediately grabbed Vizet by the shoulders.
"Was the book you left in Africa called The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 3?"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah! This is the one!"
"Then I was right. When I bought the books before, I thought this one was pretty interesting, so I happened to remember it."
"Y-You remembered it? Is that something a normal person can do? Do you really not know He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named?"
"Mm. When you read the question out just now, I remembered it all at once." Vizet nodded. "If you're worried, you can check the answers with Fred and George when they get here."
"I'll try it myself first." Lee Jordan pulled a tissue from his pocket and tore it into several pieces. "Rep... aro... Reparo!"
He kept practicing according to the question on the preview test. After more than ten attempts, the tissue was barely pieced back together.
Magic required repeated attempts in the first place. The fact that the tissue could be joined together without falling apart proved that both the principle and incantation of the Mending Charm were correct.
"Genius! My good brother, you're a genius!" Even Lee Jordan's way of addressing him changed. He snatched over the preview test. "Help me look at this one too!"
