Background / History

Tang San grew up near Huo Feng in Holy Spirit Village. On the day of their martial-soul awakening, Huo Feng secretly used the Heaven-Sacrifice System on Tang San, leaving him briefly weak before he awakened Blue Silver Grass and Innate Full Soul Power. Tang San remained unaware that repeated sacrifices would later weaken him at crucial moments. 1 2 6

At Notting Junior Soul Master Academy, Tang San entered Seventh Dorm and confronted Wang Sheng after objecting to being called “Little Sanzi.” His physical strength, developed through extensive forging, initially allowed him to contend with Wang Sheng; however, Huo Feng sacrificed him again during the fight, causing Tang San to collapse and lose. 6

Tang San became Yu Xiaogang's disciple with great reverence. During their Soul Hunting Forest expedition, he fought a Mandala Snake while Yu Xiaogang was incapacitated, sustained broken ribs, and later amputated Yu Xiaogang's poisoned arm to save his life. He spent three days forcing venom from his teacher's body before obtaining his first soul ring from a ten-year Lonely Bamboo. 15 16 17 18

After receiving his second soul ring, Tang San repeatedly challenged Huo Feng over more than three years but never won. The challenges regularly coincided with Huo Feng's sacrifice cooldown, leaving Tang San weakened after each defeat without understanding the cause. 21

He later travelled to Suotuo City on Yu Xiaogang's recommendation. Tang San clashed with Dai Mubai at the Rose Hotel, was rejected from Shrek Academy's entrance examination, and worked at a blacksmith shop to repay borrowed money and survive. 23 25 32 44

Personality

Tang San is generally composed when confronted or mocked for Blue Silver Grass, maintaining a polite manner even when others dismiss his martial soul. He is sensitive about disrespect, however, and reacts sharply to being called “Little Sanzi.” 6

He is intensely devoted to Yu Xiaogang. He kneels immediately upon their reunion in Suotuo City, blames himself for failing his teacher's expectations, and repeatedly risks himself to protect or assist him. 16 17 57 58 161

Tang San is persistent in difficult circumstances: he continues forging after failing Shrek's examination, enters Soul Duels to repay debt, and endures the near-fatal absorption of the Man Faced Demon Spider's soul ring. 32 44 162

His confidence can become arrogance. As Blue Tyrant Team captain, he sought decisive victories to demonstrate that he had “returned in force,” and later taunted Canghui Academy while assuming they would surrender. 200 238
