He entered the Underworld to find his mother and father, where he discovered a struggle over the vacant King Yama throne and set out to save Meng Banshan.

• Chen Shi led the surviving scholars out of Buddhist Hell, reunited Xiang Tianyu with Granny Sha, and returned to the capital to challenge Young Master Ren Mu.
• Chen Shi killed Ren Mu in the palace examination, became Top Scholar, and saw Zhang Fuzheng’s faction lose power as Yan Xianshi returned to office.

Chen Shi rescued his mother, returned to Huangpo Village, and pursued the cultivation mysteries behind the True King Era. After a demon stole his body, Chen Shi trained in the Underworld, defeated Pi Chi, and set out with Peng Yan’er and Sang Xixi to rescue Peng Ju.

• Chen Shi and Black Dog discovered an ambush in the Yang World, but Du Yiran’s death-bearing gravestones defeated the Yan family’s attack and saved Chen Shi’s allies.
• Chen Shi reunited with Empress Shi Ji in the Primordial Palace and escaped the Underworld siege with her, Black Dog, and his companions.
• Huo Dou recognized Black Pot as her cub and stopped pursuing Chen Shi, who returned to Huangpo Village and reunited his parents.
• Chen Shi learned about the True King Era’s calamities, helped cultivators advance through divine descent, and began approaching Great Perfection in the Void Refining Realm.

Chen Shi became Tianchi’s lord, investigated the deaths and transformations tied to the Underworld, and returned to Taihua Qing Palace with Daoist Zhen Tian’s sword. There he confronted Jing Hong’s attempt to transform the entire sect, but Jing Hong emerged anew after his apparent defeat.

• Chen Shi was crowned lord of Tianchi after the ghost tribes endorsed him, and he began reforming the kingdom while exploring the Underworld.
• Chen Shi investigated Lord Xiang Fu’s death with Wen Wuyu, battled her, and learned that immortals and evil qi were tied to the mystery.
• Chen Shi entered the Immortal Palace, met Daoist Zhen Tian, and took the True Martial Evil-Slaying Sword as the fog engulfed Yin Mountain and separated him from his companions.
• Chen Shi returned to Tianchi, reunited with his companions, and set out with Black Pot to deliver the sword to Taihua Qing Palace.

After the realms began merging, he married Xiaoduan, learned of her past and divided nature, and mobilized underworld forces to protect the villages.

• Chen Shi returned from the Underworld to his living body, learned Dan Chenzi had taken it, and resolved to reclaim his divine embryo himself.
• Chen Shi transformed his cultivation through the Yin Yang Tempering and Sixty-Four Ghost and God Domains, then accepted Yang Bi’s invitation to the Upper Realm.
• Chen Shi defeated the young heirs who challenged him and fought Yang Bi to a draw, while the Thirteen Noble Families uncovered a ruined realm whose evil qi transformed the deities.
