Background
The Luo Tian Association emerged from the collapse of the Mountain Shattering Gang. Miao Wen offered Luo Chen the protection and authority of a Foundation Establishment cultivator in exchange for half of the association’s profits after expenses; Luo Chen accepted in order to gain independence, connections, and a path toward Foundation Establishment resources 145. Nearly all thirty-one surviving cultivators from Slanting Moon Valley joined the new organization.
Its early identity rested on three advantages: Luo Chen’s reputation as Pill Dust Master, its inheritance of Mountain Shattering Gang personnel, and Mi Li’s connection to Mi Shuhua. Rather than immediately contesting territory, it issued a recall order for surviving Mountain Shattering Gang members and accepted other rogue cultivators cautiously 145 146.
The association initially relied on pill production and commerce. Luo Chen established VIP spending tiers for its shops and sought to distinguish its products through service, reliable supply, and affordable Jade Marrow Pills 147 154. Its victory over the Fu Family proved that it was not merely a pill-refining support organization, but a force able to challenge an inherited cultivation family 152.
History
Great River Market era
The association began with limited manpower and weak combat strength. Its first four halls were largely skeletal, and the Battle Hall was deliberately postponed until more combat cultivators could be recruited 145.
Repeated conflicts transformed its position. The Fu Family’s defeat raised Luo Chen’s prestige; subsequent battles, recruitment, and the Foundation Establishment advances of Luo Chen and Wang Yuan allowed the association to become comparable to a Foundation Establishment faction 154 187 188. By Luo Chen’s return from seclusion, it had become Great River Market’s fifth major Foundation Establishment power 196.
Financial strain during Luo Chen’s absence led Sima Hui Niang to reduce fixed salaries and implement a contribution-based compensation system. This forced members, especially Battle Hall cultivators, to take outside work while strengthening the association’s merit-based structure 196.
Relocation and rise in Sky Wave Immortal City
Luo Chen ordered the association to leave Great River Market three months after his return, seeking a more favorable future beyond its original territory 196. It later established itself at Danxia Peak in Sky Wave Immortal City, enforcing a ten-year lease through Luo Chen’s public defeat of three Foundation Establishment cultivators with a single Great Sun Falls attack 230.
The association’s expansion brought direct conflict with the Pill Origin Sect, Jade Truth Temple, the Eagle Family, the Geng Family, and Divine Craftsmen Sect. Luo Chen organized a three-pronged counterattack, while Min Longyu’s formations and the association’s hall system enabled coordinated warfare, logistics, and resource seizure 285 296.
The campaign produced enormous wealth but also exposed administrative weaknesses. Sima Hui Niang’s reforms created the Luo Tian Nine Halls, separating agriculture, spirit-beast management, inheritance transmission, intelligence, and enforcement functions from the earlier structure 298.
Siege of Scarlet Clouds
The association later faced encirclement by Iron Sword Hall, the Zheng Family, and forces connected to the Flame Alliance. It endured pressure on its pill business, markets, allies, and territory while Sima Hui Niang prepared Foundation Establishment candidates and defensive measures 401 403.
During the attack on Scarlet Clouds, Min Longyu’s formations killed ten Foundation Establishment attackers on the first day alone 407. The association ultimately survived the wider conflict and defeated or outlasted major hostile factions, but suffered severe casualties among its members and allies 410 412.
A seven-day funeral was held for the fallen, who were buried at the Verdant Mountain Burial Ground, later known as Luo Tian Hero’s Tomb 412.
Transition into a sect
After Luo Chen formed his Golden Core, the association’s identity became inseparable from his personal prestige. He formally announced that his Core Formation Ceremony would also mark the transition from the Luo Tian Association to the Luo Tian Sect 458.
The new sect inherited the association’s commercial networks, military halls, intelligence operations, spirit-beast bases, caravans, and merit culture. Its later growth was supported by the Luo Tian Alliance’s acquisition of Snow Wolf Plain and a Tier 3 Spirit Vein, providing the foundation for a permanent sect sanctuary 487.
Organization
Early Four Halls
| Hall | Initial leadership | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Pill Hall | Luo Chen; Granny Yuan as deputy | Pill refinement; absorbed the former Mountain Shattering Gang Medicine Hall 145 |
| Merit Hall | Murong Qinglian | Records, rewards, punishments, and administration 145 |
| Gold Hall | Gu Cai Yi | Pill sales, trade, and revenue generation 145 |
| Battle Hall | Initially undeveloped | Combat recruitment and military operations; later became a central combat branch 145 152 |
Luo Tian Nine Halls
Following the Sky Wave campaigns, Sima Hui Niang proposed a mature sect-style structure. Luo Chen approved the creation of the Luo Tian Nine Halls, including specialized branches for agriculture, spirit beasts, skill transmission, pill refinement, spirit medicine, weapon crafting, commerce, merit administration, and battle operations 298 309.
- The Agricultural Planting Hall took over herb cultivation, spirit plants, Ink Mulberry, and related projects.
- The Spirit Beast Hall managed breeding operations, including silkworm-type spirit beasts and meat-producing demon beasts.
- The Skill Transmission Hall organized the cultivation methods and secret arts acquired from defeated factions.
- The Weapon Crafting Hall developed from Duan Feng’s Artifact Hall and later gained access to Divine Craftsmen Sect inheritances.
- The Battle Hall absorbed the Law Enforcement Hall while retaining a dedicated Enforcement Team; an Intelligence Team was also created 298.
- The Luo Net Intelligence Department later handled surveillance, interrogations, and intelligence operations against hostile cultivators 400.
Administration and merit system
The association used salaries, merit exchanges, material rewards, and promotion opportunities to retain cultivators. Members could earn resources through useful contributions, while major achievements could qualify them for Foundation Establishment resources 219 298.
Luo Chen avoided confiscating all battlefield gains from participating members, believing that allowing cultivators to retain part of their personal spoils would protect morale and encourage future loyalty 291.
Leadership
- Luo Chen — Founder and Chairman of the Luo Tian Association; later Supreme Elder and founding patriarch of Luo Tian Sect. His alchemy, combat strength, and political alliances formed the organization’s central foundation 145 458.
- Sima Hui Niang — President and chief administrator. She reformed salaries, directed institutional expansion, reorganized the Nine Halls, and managed the association during Luo Chen’s absences 196 298 350.
- Wang Yuan — Early Battle Hall Master; later associated with the Skill Transmission Hall and the sect’s martial development. He was long regarded as the association’s strongest combatant aside from Luo Chen 152 285 400.
- Gu Cai Yi — Gold Hall Master and a principal organizer of trade, customer relations, and later Danxia Hall branches 145 350.
- Min Longyu — Formation master whose recruitment filled the association’s greatest weakness in the Formation Dao. His arrays were decisive in both defense and conquest 219 296.
- Duan Feng — Artifact Hall leader and later a key figure in weapon crafting, battlefield operations, and lightning-related techniques 187 298.
- Li Yingzhang — Later Sect Master of Luo Tian Sect, responsible for major deployments, diplomacy, and sect administration 800 868.
- Luo Lingxi — Luo Chen’s son and Sect Master by the time of Luo Chen’s ascension 1121.
Commerce and Resources
- Jade Marrow Pills — The association’s foundational commercial product; Luo Chen aimed to make them the standard cultivation pill for lower-level rogue cultivators and cultivation families 154.
- VIP system — Gold Hall introduced Bronze, Star-Silver, and Gilded membership tiers for customers meeting spending thresholds of 100, 1,000, and 10,000 Spirit Stones respectively 147.
- Danxia Hall — Gold Hall’s commercial branch network, later operating in multiple marketplaces and selling both Luo Tian products and goods supplied by outside cultivators and allied families 350.
- Flying-boat services — Divine Craftsmen Sect manuals enabled potential repair, maintenance, and construction industries at the Sky Wave Mooring Area 309.
- Agriculture and breeding — The association developed medicinal herbs, spirit plants, Ink Mulberry, Jade Cattail Silkworms, spirit fish, and demon-beast breeding projects 290 400.
- Luo Tian Treasure Pavilion — A later sect commercial institution established through cooperation with the Heavenly Origin Commerce League 807.
Military Strength and Defenses
- The association’s early combat core consisted of battle-tested survivors from the Mountain Shattering Gang and later recruits who had endured conflicts against the Fu Family, Great River Gang, Geng Family, and other factions 187 215.
- Min Longyu’s arrays became a defining strategic asset. His Nine Revolutions Flame Dragon Formation broke Divine Craftsmen Sect’s Copper Walls Iron Walls Grand Formation, while his defensive formations protected Scarlet Clouds from much stronger forces 296 407.
- The Seven Colored Danxia Grand Array served as Danxia Peak’s principal protective formation and projected rainbow bridges during major ceremonies 310.
- The association later established the Tier 3 Raging Thunderous Waves grand formation in the Lightning Struck Wood Forest. It could threaten Golden Core cultivators after sufficient lightning-energy accumulation 374.
- By the time it became Luo Tian Sect, it maintained multiple Nascent Soul combatants, Golden Core cultivators, powerful puppets, spirit beasts, formations, and large-scale transport vessels 800 1000 1064.
Relationships
- Miao Wen — Early patron and business partner; provided Foundation Establishment protection and Jade Cauldron Sword Sect authority in return for half of the association’s profits after expenses 145 147.
- Mountain Shattering Gang — Predecessor organization. The Luo Tian Association inherited many of its surviving members, former halls, and social connections 145 146.
- Ice Fortress — Major protector and later political superior. Its backing raised Luo Tian’s status, but also compelled the association to participate in war against the Jade Cauldron Sword Sect 310 352.
- Azure Pill Valley — Long-term pill-trade partner and ally. Its support included cultivation resources, political assistance, and eventual participation in Luo Tian Sect’s Founding War 403 868.
- Luo Tian Alliance — Coalition led by Luo Tian Sect during the Founding War; included allied Golden Core factions seeking a lasting sect territory 464 487.
- Ailao Mountain — Later ally that assisted with reconstruction, sect planning, and political protection during Sky Wave Immortal City’s changing administration 410 487.
- Heavenly Origin Commerce League — Commercial partner in later years, especially through Luo Tian Treasure Pavilion and demon-beast-corpse trade 807 830.
Notable Policies
- Recruitment was deliberately cautious in unstable periods to prevent hostile infiltration 164.
- Rewards were tied to measurable merit, but loyalty and long-term contribution were valued alongside cultivation level 145 298.
- Former enemies and outsiders could be recruited if they accepted binding obligations and proved useful, as shown by Min Longyu’s oath-bound admission 219.
- Low-level defeated disciples were sometimes released rather than exterminated to preserve the association’s legitimacy and avoid provoking stronger powers 296.
- Luo Chen and Sima Hui Niang favored rapid expansion before internal pruning, arguing that the organization first needed to grow into a force capable of supporting a formal sect structure 298.
