They could serve as cannon fodder to share the firepower, and if things went south later, they could be thrown under the bus.

First, the enemy couldn't be too many in number—too many, and he'd lose his absolute advantage, making them hard to control.

Second, their strength couldn't be too weak—too weak, and they'd be useless.

He picked and chose.

A small but capable Hydra squad was just right, so he contacted them immediately.

The Hydra squad had already learned about what happened at the port.

Hydra, which stuck its nose into everything, naturally had designs on Rand Corporation too.

If The Hand could control Rand Corporation, why couldn't Hydra?

Never mind Rand Corporation—what about S.H.I.E.L.D.? They'd still managed to infiltrate it and turn it into Serpent Shield.

Feigning action in one place while making a move in another—Hydra were the true masters of that.

Then.

Just as they were nodding off, a pillow arrived—Hydra, already scheming on how to profit from this incident, received an invitation.

And then.

After swindling a nice chunk of change from the faction leader, the Hydra squad followed him to the docks and easily boarded the stage The Hand had set up.

Su Quan didn't even know how to comment.

All he could say was, this was Madripoor—shallow waters full of turtles, with big shots everywhere. Running into any faction's people here was no surprise.

And also—

The Hand's luck was just unbelievable!

Their target was right on the ship, everything was planned out.

Yet what should've been a sure thing kept getting interrupted by others one after another.

First, the Winter Soldiers stole their spotlight and rewrote their script.

Then Hydra wormed their way in.

And Hydra's goal wasn't to kill Ward Meachum and Joy Meachum—it was to rescue them and use that to infiltrate Rand Corporation.

The Hand: I'm having such a hard time!

Su Quan turned back, grinning as he looked at Ward Meachum, who had lifted his head to meet his gaze.

"Not afraid to look at me now? Think someone's coming to save you?"

Ward Meachum shook his head and sighed. "Actually, the opposite. I didn't dare look at you earlier because I didn't want to die—same reason now."

He glanced at Su Quan, who still looked relaxed, completely unaffected by the fight outside, and surprisingly confessed.

"I lied to you. That girlfriend I mentioned earlier wasn't real—she's my sister, Joy Meachum."

"My father's dying. Someone's after our family company. My sister and I ending up here was an accident—at least, until you showed up, that's what I thought."

"And now?"

"Someone wants us dead. I thought you were one of their people, but now—you're the biggest surprise."

"If my sister and I die, you get nothing. So you have to protect us. If we survive, you'll not only get more benefits, but you'll enjoy them openly."

"I swear it, as the future chairman of Rand Corporation."

Ward Meachum's eyes gleamed with pride and confidence.

He was smart—really smart!

Using his identity and benefits to turn the kidnappers into their protectors.

Turning danger into safety, crisis into calm—that quick wit and decisiveness were truly rare.

"I'm starting to like you a little. But have you considered another possibility?"

"They'd probably be happy to pay a bigger price to save you, since it's Rand Corporation's money anyway, and it clears them of suspicion."

"A dead man has no value. No one's going to fight for you—especially if your whole family's wiped out."

"I could totally negotiate with them and do the job myself."

Su Quan walked to the door, glanced back at Ward Meachum, whose confidence had vanished and face had gone pale, then stepped out.

His logic was right—it was the attitude he showed that was wrong.

Confidence is good, but overconfidence, confidence without reading the room—that's just asking for death.

Still too young.

"Crack!"

A massive bolt of lightning split the gloomy sky, its brilliant light turning night into day.

The deafening thunder made everyone instinctively cease fire and look up.

There, in the azure lightning, a figure descended like a god, crashing down.

"Boom!"

The figure landed, and the entire dock seemed to tremble slightly.

The immense impact instantly scattered the lingering smoke.

The Hydra squad in the smoke steadied themselves, supporting each other, and quickly raised their guns toward the center of the impact.

The solid dock ground had actually caved into a deep crater.

In the crater, the figure striking a hero's landing pose slowly rose, surrounded by flickering energy and lightning.

Then—

His feet touched the ground, and he floated slowly into the air.

"Bang!"

Just as the crowd was stunned and bewildered, a sniper in the distance instinctively pulled the trigger.

"Ding!"

The speeding bullet lost its momentum before him, dropping to the ground with a clatter.

Su Quan narrowed his eyes and looked over slowly.

In the distance, the sniper who had fired suddenly froze. He, he spotted me. From this far away, he actually spotted me!

An unknown fear surged in his heart. He packed up his sniper rifle and turned to flee.

"Ah—"

A terrified scream pierced the night sky, shooting straight into the clouds.

The crowd on the dock snapped awake.

Where was he?

How was he gone?

"Ah—"

The terrified scream cut off abruptly, and the sniper rifle clattered to the ground with a thud.

The sniper's eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at the man who, just a second ago, had been over a kilometer away.

This man, descending from the sky with lightning—

Was he a visitor from beyond the heavens?

Or a descending god?

His heart raced, his breath caught—the sniper, a Hydra agent in truth, tremblingly forced out what he thought was a friendly smile.

"You—"

The Hydra agent only got out one word before his neck was seized.

And then—

Whoosh, up he went!

"Boom!"

The deafening sonic boom jolted the stunned crowd awake, and the mysteriously vanished man was back.

Descending from the sky once more.

But this time, he wasn't alone.

"Look, there's something in his hand!"
