History

Founding and early prosperity

The Wangyue Song Clan descended from the Brocade Banner Song Clan, an ancient Golden Core family. Its founder, Song Taiyi, was expelled for a crime, traveled to the Moon-Gazing Mountain Range, and established a new clan after securing its Third-Tier Spirit Vein. Mineral resources allowed the clan to develop quickly and dominate Ling Province. 2

Song Taiyi’s greatest regret was never regaining formal recognition from the Brocade Banner. His descendants inherited that goal, but the ancestral lineage ignored the Wangyue branch for generations. 23

A century before Song Changsheng’s era, the Brocade Banner suffered internal upheaval and verbally recognized the Wangyue Song Clan as a branch. The arrangement required tribute and the sending of clansmen in exchange for resources, including Foundation Establishment Pills; the unequal terms were accepted to preserve the clan during a crisis. 23

Decline and reconstruction

After a devastating war reduced the clan to a Foundation Establishment force, Song Yunhan rebuilt its institutions. Her reforms made resource allocation dependent on aptitude and ability rather than ancestry, while also separating clan property from the private property earned by individual members. 13

The clan’s rules reject hereditary privilege. Descendants of the patriarch and elders are formally subject to the same standards as other clansmen, and later reforms explicitly prohibited distinctions between main and branch lineages. 13 696

Rise under Song Changsheng

Song Changsheng’s elevation first as Young Clan Head and later as Patriarch coincided with the clan’s recovery. It defeated the Wuling Sect, redistributed Ling Province’s resources, rebuilt markets, and used its growing strength to turn nearby clans and sects into affiliated forces rather than annihilating them. 293 295

The Silver Moon Wolf calamity was a defining crisis. Song Luyao and Song Luhai sacrificed themselves to help grievously wound the Great Demon Yinyue, while Song Changsheng destroyed both its body and Divine Soul. The clan subsequently destroyed the Silver Moon Wolf Clan, greatly increasing its reputation in the Southwest Region. 226 231

The clan later expanded into Yang Province, reorganized local powers under its authority, and defeated the Blazing Sun Sect. Rather than directly governing every conquered territory, Song Changsheng used intimidation, local administration, and intelligence operations to maintain control. 364 367

Severance from the Brocade Banner

The ancestral lineage’s treatment of Wangyue cultivators—especially the exploitation and death of Song Luke—ended any remaining goodwill. The Brocade Banner’s Guiding Emissaries had taken talented branch youths away under the guise of training, while the Wangyue branch received little regard or protection. 612 681

At Heavenly Dragon Peak, Song Changsheng compelled the Brocade Banner to publicly proclaim the Wangyue Lineage as an orthodox Song Clan lineage. The proclamation ended the two lineages’ legal relationship, allowing each to maintain separate ancestral worship and institutions. 722

Later conflicts culminated in the Brocade Banner’s annexation into Song Changsheng’s expanding power. Former Brocade Banner leaders Song Daoling, Song Wuji, and Song Jiyuan were tried and executed for betraying the clan. 940 1007
