Background / History
Spirit Rings are the central resource of Spirit Master cultivation. Traditionally, a Spirit Master obtains one by killing a Soul Beast and absorbing the ring left after its death. Rings grant Soul Skills, strengthen the user's physical attributes, and allow advancement past cultivation bottlenecks. This system makes Soul Beasts indispensable targets for human Spirit Masters and creates a persistent life-or-death conflict between the two races 126.
A ring's age and position can affect the Soul Skill it produces. Established Martial Soul lineages preserve ring-selection knowledge across generations, while commoner Spirit Masters often lack guidance and may take less suitable development paths 83.
Su Ming challenges the conventional system through the Soul Spirit System. Rather than killing a Soul Beast, a Spirit Master can extract its soul through a contract and turn it into a sentient Spirit Ring-like companion. A Soul Spirit may provide multiple Soul Skills, evolve alongside its master, reduce Soul Power consumption, and be passed down; however, it also leaves the Soul Beast dependent on and bound to its contracted Spirit Master 126.

Spirit Rings manifest as luminous bands around a Spirit Master or their Martial Soul.

Soul Skill Granting
A Spirit Ring provides a Soul Skill associated with its Soul Beast source and the recipient's Martial Soul. The same Soul Beast does not necessarily produce identical results for every Spirit Master, as Su Ming's Qi Martial Soul is unusually compatible with Soul Beast abilities 171.
