Chapter 48. Shura Gege
The Shura God said, "Of course. Although that inheritor of yours is just a stepping stone for my Great Treasure, if she dares hurt my Great Treasure, I'll hold you accountable."
The Rakshasa God rolled her eyes at Asura. Your Great Treasure had been favored by the Shura God King, who had poured every effort into nurturing him and practically assigned all the opportunities of the entire Douluo Continent era to him. He got to eat the meat and drink the soup, while everyone else was only fit to lick the bowl. As for the inheritor she had chosen, she had to become a god after his Great Treasure and would not receive any Divine Trial rewards—just a Divine Throne and a Divine Artifact.
Even so, could she possibly hurt his Great Treasure? The Rakshasa God could not imagine what circumstances would allow her inheritor to harm his Great Treasure.
"I know, I know. Before she becomes a god, I, the Rakshasa God, will keep watch over her. I won't let your Great Treasure suffer the slightest grievance." The Rakshasa God said unhappily, "Honestly, anyone who didn't know better would think that Great Treasure was your illegitimate son."
Having said that, the Rakshasa God suddenly leaned close to the Shura God, sniffed him, and said, "Shura Gege, should we make a little treasure of our own now?"
The Shura God shoved the Rakshasa God away and said displeasedly, "Stop messing around. Our identities are different now. If this gets out, what will others think of me? And don't speak to me in that disgusting tone."
Seeing black mist begin to seep from around the Rakshasa God's body again, the Shura God straightened his expression and said, "I promise you. Once this matter is settled, I'll have a little treasure of our own with you. By then, you can have as many as you want, all right?"
The black mist around the Rakshasa God receded again. She said, "You said it."
"Of course. Once I, Asura, give my word, not even four horses can pull it back. All right, it's getting late. You should go back now. Don't let anyone catch your tail." The Shura God spoke with righteous solemnity.
The Rakshasa God reluctantly left the private area she shared with the Shura God. Before leaving, she deliberately emphasized, "This time, you have to keep your word."
The Shura God stood with his hands behind his back, watching the Rakshasa God's departing figure. His face turned disgusted as he spat several times in her direction.
"Rakshasa, you were filthy long ago. I, the Shura God, am impartial and selfless, pure and spotless, the Law Enforcement God King who openly governs the authority of judging sin and evil. How could I ever keep company with a sinner like you? If Great Treasure still had use for you, would I have humiliated myself by accommodating you?"
"Just wait. Once your inheritor commits evil in the Lower Realm and is judged by my Great Treasure, I'll judge you as well."
"Hmph! You want to roam the cosmos with me? You think you're worthy?"
With that, the Shura God left as well.
In other worlds, opposing attributes were hostile and clearly divided. For example, righteousness and evil could not coexist, Goodness and Evil had no room for compromise, and water and fire were incompatible.
But in this romance-filled Douluo universe, Goodness and Evil, Life and Destruction—opposing attributes that would have to fight to the death in other universes—were no longer opposed here. On the contrary, they fell in love, eventually married, and became a famous immortal couple in the Divine Realm.
Among the Five God Kings before Huo Yuhao arrived, only Asura was alone.
Was Asura a lonely single? Of course not. He and Rakshasa were born from mutually sustaining origins, of the same source yet opposed to one another. Thus, in this romance-filled universe, they were an old pair of lovers.
Yet their relationship was unlike the public relationships between Life and Destruction, or Goodness and Evil. Many times, Rakshasa would create evil and slaughter, using malicious thoughts to throw the Lower Realm into chaos, while the Shura God would promptly step forth to carry out Shura Judgment. In the eyes of the gods, they were enemies who had to fight to the death. If you said Asura and Rakshasa were actually a couple, people would think you were insane.
The two also held different positions in the Divine Realm. Because she had long been judged by Asura, the Rakshasa God's strength was only at the peak of a First-level God, while the Shura God stood high above as a God King. The Rakshasa God, who created malicious thoughts and sowed chaos throughout the world, had practically no friends in the Divine Realm and always came and went alone. The Shura God, on the other hand, was extremely popular due to his stern impartiality and spotless purity.
The Rakshasa God returned to her Divine Temple, her heart heavy with suppressed gloom.
Since the day she was born, she had always deeply loved Shura Gege. Yet no matter how unwilling she was to deceive herself, the Rakshasa God had long known that Shura Gege had changed too.
Back then, in order to enrich his authority further, the Shura God came up with a method: he made the Rakshasa God his black glove, having her handle all the dirty work while he emerged afterward in a lofty, radiant image to clean up the mess.
If you loved someone, you had to give everything for them. So the Rakshasa God truly became the Shura God's black glove. On one hand, she followed his arrangements to bring chaos to the world; on the other, she was constantly dragged out by him for Shura Judgment. Even so, she had no regrets.
However, the higher Shura Gege climbed and the more lofty and radiant his image became, the more distant he grew from her. He wanted to draw a clear line between them, as though she were some kind of filth. If he had not wanted to bring Great Treasure into this world this time, Shura Gege would not have come to see her for decades. By Lower Realm time, that amounted to tens of thousands of years.
Thinking of that inheritor into whom Shura Gege had poured so much effort, the Rakshasa God could not help feeling a trace of jealousy. A thought arose in her mind.
Should I scheme against this Great Treasure?
But Rakshasa's body quickly shuddered. It was not as if she had never plotted against inheritors chosen by the Shura God to protest to Asura before. But those inheritors had never truly caught Shura Gege's eye, so plotting against them was no great matter. Yet judging by Shura Gege's attitude toward this Great Treasure, if she dared scheme against his precious phoenix egg, she and the Shura God would never be able to reconcile. The Shura God might even dare to kill her.
"Forget it. I've been his black glove for so many years. One more time makes no difference." The Rakshasa God activated Divine Vision and prepared to check on her inheritor as she said, "Sigh, inheritor chosen by me, I suppose you're unlucky. But there's no helping it. This is something Shura Gege promised me."
The instant Divine Vision opened, the Rakshasa God's expression changed, and Divine Armor immediately covered her body.
Before putting on her Divine Armor, the Rakshasa God possessed a seductive beauty. Once the armor covered her, her appearance instantly worsened, turning her into a blue-faced, fanged monster.
She summoned the Rakshasa Demon Scythe and roared, "Who was it? My inheritor has been plotted against. Damn it!"
At the thought that her inheritor had been schemed against and might fail to complete the task Shura Gege had assigned, leaving her unable to be with Shura Gege, the black mist around the Rakshasa God grew several degrees denser.
