On a mountain path through a small forest not far from Konoha, a tall, slender figure was walking toward the village. He wore an Akatsuki cloak with red clouds over a black skintight bodysuit, and an orange spiral mask covered his face.

He had come this time to investigate the cause of Itachi Uchiha's death. Itachi had died far too early, leaving Obito full of doubts.
He knew Itachi well, and he knew all of Itachi's plans. According to that plan, Itachi would die at the hands of his younger brother Sasuke and give his eyes to him. It would both fulfill his brother and atone for his own sins.
What a ridiculous plan!
But that plan was also based on Sasuke growing strong enough. Otherwise, even if he gave his eyes to his younger brother, they would be of no use whatsoever.
Obito had once laughed wildly at that plan. Still, Itachi had been brought out of Konoha by him, and that had taken quite some effort. To help Itachi take the streetlamp outside the Uchiha Clan Grounds with him, Obito had worked himself half to death.
Back then, he had told Itachi that there were plenty of streetlamps in the organization, and he could pick whichever one he wanted and stand on whichever one he liked.
But Itachi had been exceptionally stubborn at the time. He insisted on taking that streetlamp from outside the Uchiha Clan Grounds and refused all others. If Obito would not agree to even that, then he would not leave with him.
Left with no choice, Obito had used Kamui Space to take away the streetlamp outside the Uchiha Clan Grounds.
