Background

Yu Xiaogang is Yu Yuanzhen's son and a former member of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Sect. His mutated Martial Soul, Luosanpao, left him unable to advance beyond Rank 29, a limitation that gradually eroded his confidence and made him highly sensitive to others questioning his strength 273 306.

Yu Yuanzhen sent him to Spirit Hall to study Martial Soul theory. During this period, Yu Xiaogang accessed Spirit Hall's records and cultivated an image of a detached, scholarly gentleman, which drew Bibi Dong's attention 311 465. His later reputation as the author of the Ten Great Martial Soul Competitiveness Theories is challenged by Spirit Hall figures, who state that he summarized or copied the institution's existing research 241 289 466.

He became part of the Golden Iron Triangle with Flender and Liu Erlong. According to Yu Yuanzhen, Yu Xiaogang knew from the outset that Liu Erlong was a direct Yu Family descendant and pursued her because their Martial Soul Fusion Skill could allow the trio to contend with a Titled Douluo 306. When Qian Xunji died, Yu Xiaogang allegedly intended to bring Liu Erlong to the Yu Family and expose their blood relation, forcing their separation so that he could return to Bibi Dong 306.

Personality

Yu Xiaogang is deeply insecure about his stalled cultivation, despite projecting the confidence of a renowned theorist. His inability to become a Soul Elder makes public doubt, comparisons with talented students, and reminders of his Rank 29 limit especially painful 272 273.

He is calculating in his relationships and repeatedly views powerful women as routes to status, resources, or protection. He approached Liu Erlong for the Golden Iron Triangle's Fusion Skill and Bibi Dong for access to Spirit Hall's knowledge; later, he openly considers relying on Bibi Dong's position as Pope to elevate his own standing 306 362.

His insecurity develops into possessiveness and paranoia. He reacts with jealousy to Zhao Ming's interactions with Bibi Dong, misinterprets her attempts to help him as betrayal, and verbally insults her during their conflict 465 474. Even after recognizing Zhao Ming's schemes, he remains focused on regaining Bibi Dong's support rather than accepting responsibility for his conduct 480 483.

Blue Tyrant Academy Conflict

As Dean of Academic Affairs, Yu Xiaogang expects to control Zhao Ming through academy rules and privately plans to make him suffer for earlier humiliation. He conceals this resentment from Liu Erlong to preserve her favorable opinion of him 270. His refusal to reveal his Martial Soul before teachers and students instead fuels public doubts about his strength 272.

Liu Erlong's Break with Him

Yu Yuanzhen reveals to Liu Erlong that Yu Xiaogang knowingly pursued his own cousin for the Golden Iron Triangle's Fusion Skill and planned to expose their relation when it served his interests 306. Liu Erlong confronts him, calls him selfish and self-serving, and severs their relationship while Yu Yuanzhen punishes him for endangering the sect through his hostility toward Zhao Ming 311 312 313.

Collapse at Shrek Academy

After Tang San disappears, Yu Xiaogang pins his hopes on his disciple's eventual fame and prepares to seek refuge with Bibi Dong at Spirit Hall 362. Zhao Ming confronts him, exposes his utilitarian attitude toward Bibi Dong, presents Tang San's severed head, and has Little Dragon Girl cripple Yu Xiaogang's Martial Soul 362.

Spirit Hall Humiliation

In the Spirit Hall episodes set during Bibi Dong's time as Saintess, Yu Xiaogang is repeatedly manipulated by Zhao Ming in his role as the Divine Envoy. He is accused of profaning the Angel God, publicly demeaned for his weak cultivation, and forced to wear the bound Forgiveness Divine Hat 466 469 470.

His jealousy and crude accusations toward Bibi Dong during his month in the Soul Hunting Forest destroy what remains of her trust. Bibi Dong ultimately ends their relationship and chooses to protect Zhao Ming instead 481 483 484.

Humanoid Punching Bag

After returning from the Soul Hunting Forest, Yu Xiaogang mistakes Bibi Dong's welcome for affection toward him, only to find that she is embracing Zhao Ming. He is beaten by Spirit Hall disciples, and an elder proposes retaining him as a protected sparring target so disciples can practice soul skills without risking one another's safety 493 494
