How Could I Possibly Be a Masochist?
Ning Rongrong had already climbed down from Xu Changqing's arms. Xu Changqing had been quite restrained earlier; a few swats on her little butt as punishment only hurt at the time. He truly didn't dare injure this Little Princess.
She gazed into the distance. Crimson and bluish-white colors intertwined, and within them, one could vaguely make out the silhouettes of a greatsword and a giant hammer.
Every collision unleashed a fierce gust of wind that howled past. If the battle had been any closer, Notting City would likely have been reduced to ruins tonight.
Ning Rongrong bounced excitedly and shouted, "It's Sword Grandpa! I've seen Sword Grandpa and Bone Grandpa fight before—I definitely won't mistake it!"
Xu Changqing nodded in agreement. That greatsword Martial Soul really did resemble the Seven Kill Sword Martial Soul Avatar from the anime. As for the other person who could fight Sword Douluo, there was no need to guess—it had to be Tang Hao. That hammer-shaped Martial Soul Avatar was far too recognizable.
"They started fighting on their very first day in Notting City. That's even faster than I expected! Could it be because of Xiao Wu?"
Thinking of this, Xu Changqing glanced at Xiao Wu and noticed a faint unease in her eyes. Her body was trembling slightly as well; she was probably scared.
He patted her little head. When Xiao Wu looked at him with flickering eyes, Xu Changqing smiled and gave her a reassuring look, finally easing the panic in her heart.
"Let's go cheer Sword Grandpa on!" Ning Rongrong's interest was piqued. She suddenly looked at Xu Changqing with excitement and suggested it from the side.
"No."
Xu Changqing refused without even thinking. What a joke. Two Titled Douluo were fighting over there; even the aftershocks of their battle could kill ordinary Soul Masters. Though he could ride the Water Dragon high in the sky to watch, Titled Douluo could fly too. Getting too close made it easy to get caught in the crossfire, while staying too far away was no different from watching here.
Besides, taking Xiao Wu over there involved too many uncertainties. He had no interest in asking for trouble.
Watching from afar and satisfying his curiosity was enough.
"Come on, Changqing Gege~" Ning Rongrong blinked her big eyes beside him, shaking his arm as she coquettishly pleaded.
Xu Changqing gave her a sidelong glance. "You learned that from Xiao Wu pretty quickly, but that won't work on me. Cut it out!"
"Hmph!" The moment Xu Changqing refused, Ning Rongrong immediately showed her true colors. With her hands on her hips, she gave a soft snort. "You bullied me earlier and spanked my butt, and I haven't even settled that score with you yet. Now you can't even fulfill such a tiny request of mine? You have no gentlemanly manners at all. Just wait—tomorrow, I'll definitely have Sword Grandpa teach you a lesson."
"Gentlemanly manners?" Xu Changqing raised an eyebrow. "A gentleman corresponds to a lady. Look at yourself—other than your appearance, what part of your temperament resembles a lady's?"
As he spoke, he lifted Xiao Wu's smooth, tender chin, earning himself a glare from her. Then he looked back at Ning Rongrong, sweeping his gaze between the two as he made an objective comparison. "Xiao Wu may be impatient and like fighting, but she treats her own people quite well. At least she doesn't throw tantrums regardless of the situation. Now look at you. You're full of Young Miss temper, stomping your feet whenever something displeases you and constantly threatening to deal with this person or that person. There were a lot of people in the dorm earlier, so I was already giving you some face."
"Honestly, with that Young Miss temper of yours, it'll be hard for you to make true friends in the future. Even if someone is willing to be friends with you, they're probably only interested in your status and background—or afraid of the backing behind you. They'd only be friends on the surface."
"I don't believe you!" Ning Rongrong stubbornly replied, but there was far less confidence in her eyes. Presumably, she was somewhat aware of her own temperament.
"Believe it or not, I have no obligation to educate you. Still, let me offer you some advice: no one would willingly be sincere friends with someone who always holds herself above everyone else and expects the whole world to revolve around her wishes. At the very least, I wouldn't!"
Xu Changqing shrugged and said no more.
Ning Rongrong truly had quite a temper. When dealing with him, she had likely restrained herself somewhat because of the System. But when dealing with others—such as when she had clashed with Xiao Wu in the dorm earlier—she had clearly been in the wrong, yet still refused to yield even verbally. She had nearly angered Xiao Wu to death. If Xu Changqing had not stopped Xiao Wu, Ning Rongrong would probably have been beaten black and blue.
Ning Rongrong felt terribly wronged right now. Ever since Xu Changqing said, "At the very least, I wouldn't," she had felt wronged, and she no longer had any interest in going to watch Sword Grandpa fight or cheer him on.
Over the past few days, afraid of being disliked, she had already been trying hard to restrain her temper. She had thought victory was in hand and that winning Xu Changqing over would not be difficult. Yet after coming to Notting Academy, she suddenly discovered that she actually had a rival—and in this regard, she was even at a disadvantage.
Wasn't it just a matter of competing?
As the Young Miss of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, when had she ever lost?
Yet she had lost. The moment Xu Changqing said, "At the very least, I wouldn't," she had lost—far too quickly.
Is my temper really that bad?
She silently thought back on it. It did seem rather bad. Otherwise, those little companions in Heaven Dou City whom she had played with for a few days would not have stopped playing with her, just as Xu Changqing had said. Whenever they saw her now, they would avoid her from afar.
She felt wronged!
Tears welled in her eyes, and she wanted to burst into tears. Yet her proud nature forced her to hold them back, her little nose twitching as she sniffled.
Xu Changqing's eyelid twitched as he pursed his lips.
He wondered whether he had spoken too harshly. Why was he arguing with a little girl whose mind had not fully matured?
A little girl was on the verge of tears before him, and he was the one who had caused it. He felt deeply uneasy.
"Don't be sad. Maybe some masochist would really like your kind of personality."
He forced himself to comfort her gently.
"What's a masochist?" Ning Rongrong asked pitifully, sniffling.
"It's probably... the kind of person who likes being abused, mentally and physically." The term was rather difficult to explain, and Xu Changqing racked his brain.
"..."
Ning Rongrong fell silent for a moment. She pursed her lips, hope appearing in her eyes. "Then are you one?"
"Damn it! Of course I'm not!"
Could I possibly be that kind of person?
Xu Changqing immediately shook his head furiously.
The next moment.
"Waaah!"
Ning Rongrong could no longer hold it in. She plopped down on the dragon's head, tears streaming down her face. Xu Changqing's scalp went numb as he watched. You really are my Little Ancestor.
If Sword Douluo, that overprotective old man, saw this, wouldn't he skin him alive when he got back?
