Summoning System Seeks Investment
That was right—Xu Changqing's martial soul, the Five Dragon Lyre, was a genuine summoning-type tool martial soul.
This type of martial soul was extremely rare on Douluo Continent. At the very least, in the original Douluo story, Xu Changqing had never seen a single Soul Master whose martial soul belonged to the Summoning System.
Yu Xiaogang's martial soul was an exception. His Luo Sanpao was, at most, a mutated summon. Calling it part of the Summoning System would be an insult to the Summoning System. His martial soul was far too weak and powerless to form its own branch alongside the seven major Soul Master systems, such as assault and control.
Xu Changqing's martial soul, however, was different. Although it had not yet been fitted with a Soul Ring, he could still sense some of the general direction his martial soul would take in the future.
The Five Dragon Lyre's five differently colored strings corresponded respectively to the five elemental attributes of metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. Xu Changqing could sense that the Soul Rings his martial soul required would likewise need attributes corresponding to those strings. That was what his martial soul had "told" him.
"If my martial soul can be repaired, perhaps in the future, I will carve out a new branch among the seven major Soul Master systems of Douluo Continent—one recognized by the world."
Xu Changqing thought to himself.
Not long after Tang San left the dormitory, Wang Sheng and the others gathered around under Xiao Wu's lead.
"You actually have Innate Full Soul Power?" Wang Sheng was the first to speak, asking in astonishment. The others surrounding him wore equally envious expressions.
They truly had not expected this quiet little boy, delicate and pretty beyond belief, to have been keeping such a low profile while actually being a peerless genius with Innate Full Soul Power!
Unfortunately, judging from his earlier conversation with Tang San, his martial soul seemed incomplete, leaving him unable to break through to Soul Emperor rank for the rest of his life. But to Wang Sheng and the others, even a Soul Elder was already an expert like the Dean of Notting Academy. Did being unable to reach Soul Emperor rank really matter?
In their eyes, that flaw in his martial soul was completely insignificant.
Different horizons led to different perspectives on the world.
After learning that Xu Changqing possessed Innate Full Soul Power, Xiao Wu was pleasantly surprised as well. A trace of excitement flashed in her eyes as she waved her fists. "Xu Changqing, I never thought you had Innate Full Soul Power too. Your strength should be pretty good, right? You nearly fooled me earlier. Come on, spar with Sister Xiao Wu."
Being stared at by a group of brats gave Xu Changqing a headache. He was not particularly fond of liveliness; otherwise, he would not have liked an ancient instrument like the lyre in his previous life.
"It's true that I have Innate Full Soul Power, but I really don't know how to fight. I'm not a battle-type Soul Master either, so stop making trouble, Xiao Wu." Xu Changqing looked at the lively, battle-loving Xiao Wu and smiled helplessly.
"You really can't?" Xiao Wu was somewhat unwilling to accept it, but after seeing Xu Changqing nod with a calm smile, she could only give up on the idea.
With new people joining the Seventh Dorm, including a powerful big sister figure, everyone was in high spirits. They gathered around the beds, chatting about this and that for most of the day, gradually becoming familiar with one another. Taking advantage of the time, Xu Changqing also finished settling most of the daily necessities he had brought along.
After a while, Tang San came in. This time, he merely glanced at Xu Changqing without saying much.
Presumably, after learning about the flaw in Xu Changqing's martial soul, Yu Xiaogang had already abandoned the thought of taking him as a disciple.
Xu Changqing merely smiled at this and did not care. It was exactly what he had expected.
However, Tang San's return drew Xiao Wu and the others' attention, temporarily relieving Xu Changqing of his pressing predicament and quieting his surroundings.
"The academy arrangements are more or less settled. Next, I should go obtain a Soul Ring. But how am I supposed to obtain one?"
Watching Tang San and Xiao Wu spar with agile, nimble movements in the Seventh Dorm's corridor, Xu Changqing envied their skills, but his brows gradually furrowed.
When he told Xiao Wu and the others that he could not fight, he had not been modest. He truly could not fight. In that case, how was he supposed to kill soul beasts and obtain a Soul Ring? That had become a major problem for him.
After thinking it over, Xu Changqing decided to ask one of the academy teachers later.
Tang San and Xiao Wu's fight soon ended as well. Just as in the original story, Tang San lost to Xiao Wu after letting his guard down. At least on the surface, Xiao Wu had gained another little brother.
Not long after their fight ended, an academy teacher brought Tang San his bedding. At the same time, he assigned Xu Changqing and the other three newly arrived work-study students the task of cleaning the Southern Garden of the academy.
Xu Changqing also took this opportunity to ask the teacher for the information he wanted.
Most ordinary teachers at Notting Academy were Soul Masters around levels eighteen or nineteen. Great Soul Masters were rather uncommon, let alone Soul Elders. There was only one Soul Elder in the academy—the Dean.
The academy would help its students obtain Soul Rings, but the rings would not be of particularly high quality. In the end, it mostly depended on connections.
In the original story, even Xiao Chenyu, the son of Notting City's lord, had obtained a Soul Ring less than a hundred years old. Xu Changqing guessed that Xiao Chenyu was probably not favored in the City Lord's Manor.
Yet even so, he was at least somewhat connected to the City Lord's Manor, wasn't he?
Even someone with that little bit of backing had received a Soul Ring from the academy that was under a hundred years old. Thinking of himself, Xu Changqing could not help feeling rather gloomy.
"Looks like I can't ask the academy to help me hunt a Soul Ring. Otherwise, my starting point will be too low." He frowned in thought.
But if he did not ask the academy, who could this six-year-old child from Notting Orphanage ask for help?
Should he swallow his pride and go with Yu Xiaogang and Tang San to Soul Hunting Forest tomorrow to hunt a Soul Ring?
Heh. Leaving aside whether they would truly do their best to help him after he had indirectly rejected them, Xu Changqing did not want to owe them that favor in the first place.
Now that he had determined that Yu Xiaogang had problems with his character, insisting on getting close to him would be utterly brain-dead behavior.
Xu Changqing had his own principles. He believed in being open and upright, and in repaying any kindness he received. Even if Yu Xiaogang were willing to help him obtain a Soul Ring, he did not want to accept that favor.
Of all the debts in the world, debts of gratitude were the hardest to repay.
"Looks like I can only ask Su Yuntao."
After considering it from every angle, Xu Changqing set his sights on Su Yuntao, the only suitable candidate.
On Douluo Continent, the only Soul Master he had a decent relationship with and who possessed sufficient strength seemed to be Su Yuntao.
Besides, he already owed Su Yuntao a favor. Owing him a little more did not matter. At worst, he would repay that kindness tenfold or a hundredfold in the future!
Having made up his mind, Xu Changqing did not want to wait any longer. He needed to first find out whether Su Yuntao would be willing to help him. With that thought, he greeted Xiao Wu and the others before quickly running out of the academy.
Half an hour later, Xu Changqing arrived at the Martial Soul Branch Hall in Notting City once more. On a sofa in the corner of the branch hall's lobby, a man and a woman were talking about something. They were too far away for Xu Changqing to hear clearly.
But the man among them was none other than Su Yuntao.
"Could that woman be Si Si?"
Looking at the beautiful woman seated beside Su Yuntao, Xu Changqing thought this as he hurried over.
