History

Konoha's internal politics were already strained in Konoha Year 39. The Uchiha Clan believed the village was gradually excluding it, while the clan's own arrogance and xenophobia intensified the divide. Its rivalry with the Hyuga Clan was especially persistent, as both sought recognition as Konoha's foremost clan 2 11.

Following Hatake Sakumo's death, Konoha organized the Five-Village Joint Chunin Exams as a public demonstration of strength. The Land of Fire's daimyo invited the other nations' daimyo, making the exams a political showcase as much as a competition 54.

The village's conflict with Sunagakure escalated into a broader war after the Third Kazekage disappeared. Sunagakure declared war, Kumogakure attacked a Konoha camp, and Kirigakure struck an outpost in the Land of Whirlpools, beginning the Third Great Ninja War 151. Konoha ultimately prevailed against the four great villages, though it sustained severe personnel losses 227.

Hiruzen Sarutobi abdicated as Third Hokage over his wartime misjudgments. Minato Namikaze was subsequently selected as Fourth Hokage and formally inaugurated one week later 227 252 254.

Konoha recovered within a year of the Nine-Tails Incident, suffering primarily economic damage rather than catastrophic casualties. Its leadership publicized Kyosuke Uchiha's power while investigating Obito and his associates to deter hostile actors and locate the group behind the incident 291.

After the Cloud Shinobi incident, Konoha adopted a more forceful foreign policy. Kyosuke's victories made the village feared across the shinobi world, while Minato elevated him to Konoha Elder and Hokage Advisor 331.

When the Shinobi Sect formed an Anti-Konoha Alliance with Kumogakure, Kirigakure, Iwagakure, and Sunagakure, Konoha mobilized for another large-scale war 340 346. It defeated the alliance and installed Konoha-aligned rulers across the other major villages 360.

Konoha fielded a force of nearly 16,000 ninja during the Anti-Konoha Alliance war. More than eighty percent were civilian ninja, whose combat capability improved rapidly after gaining access to the Ninjutsu Pavilion 347.

Thunder God Squad

A secret Uchiha unit trained in Kyosuke's improved Lightning Release Armor method.

• Consisted of thirty Uchiha trained in Lightning Release Armor and secretly sent to the Moon for further training 331.
• Its members combined Three-Tomoe Sharingan, Hashirama Cells, and Lightning Release Armor 347.
• During the war against Sunagakure, the unit annihilated most of a 2,000-man Sand reinforcement force in a canyon 357.
