Saori was born into the Hyuga Clan's Branch Family and bore the Caged Bird Seal from childhood. Her memories of the seal's pain and her father's suffering left her with enduring hatred for the Main Family's control. She was also pressured toward an arranged marriage, prompting her to seek Kyosuke's help in reaching the front lines. 95 254

Before and during the war, Saori served as a highly capable Root operative and became the strongest member of Kyosuke's team. She fought alongside Kyosuke, Number 7, and Number 13 against Sand Shinobi, repeatedly using her Byakugan and Gentle Fist to hold stronger enemies at bay. 104 107 108

Saori sought battlefield distinction not only to serve Konoha but to establish herself as an individual strong enough to escape being treated as a tool for childbirth. Kyosuke ultimately left her behind when he departed for the Land of Whirlpools, believing she needed achievements earned independently to gain recognition. 171
