Zhang Yangzi enters Eastsea Academy and shares a dormitory with Yu Nanyuan, Wei Xiaofeng, and Wang Jinxi. He distinguishes himself from the more confrontational Wei Xiaofeng by attempting to make the group more welcoming. 30

In Freshman Class One's elimination matches, he defeats Wei Xiaofeng and reaches the final against Yu Nanyuan. Yu Nanyuan defeats him with Void Impalement, marking Zhang Yangzi's first documented defeat and prompting him to confront the gap in their strength. 36

Formation of Class Zero

After the defeat, Zhang Yangzi joins Yu Nanyuan, Wang Jinxi, Wei Xiaofeng, and Lei Ge for an outing, beginning a closer group friendship. 37
