Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Epic Peak 1380 Reached the peak of the Epic realm through governance work and nightly training under Clark; his Chaos-element path still required personal enlightenment to advance further.
Legendary 1381 Endured a consciousness trial guided by Chen Cheng, resisting visions of repeated personal and political catastrophes. A five-colored-and-black Dao Fruit formed from his Magic Energy, completing his advancement.

Background

Wisdom Shield was born into the Moss royal family under circumstances that drew the Church’s suspicion. His grandfather’s forbidden Shadow Demon research had already placed the family under surveillance, while Wisdom Shield’s rare Chaos-element talent made him an especially dangerous anomaly in the Church’s eyes. 1105 1106

As Earl Huidun, he initially governed from a position of severe political isolation. The alchemist and undead crisis devastated Hui Dun City, leaving him responsible for reconstruction, compensation, and civilian deaths while he lacked dependable allies or funds. His first instinct was to conceal the disaster and exaggerate his own achievements to Moss XIII, hoping to prove himself a viable successor. 51

Chen Cheng first approached Wisdom Shield while disguised as a wandering bard. What began as Chen’s attempt to gain academy admission became a genuine partnership: Wisdom Shield recognized the political advice hidden in Chen’s stories, while Chen decided to help him pursue the throne. 1329

Personality

Wisdom Shield began as insecure and politically desperate, compensating for his weak succession position through displays of confidence and achievement. Chen Cheng’s criticism forced him to recognize that conspicuous merit without a power base could make him a target rather than secure his future. 51 52

He gradually became a patient and pragmatic statesman. He cultivates loyalty through generosity, uses institutions and national policy rather than direct confrontation, and deliberately manages his public reputation to avoid provoking rivals. 67 306 307

Despite his political sophistication, Wisdom Shield retains a strong moral boundary. He refuses to force a political marriage without the prospective bride’s consent, invests heavily in his subordinates, and carries lasting guilt for losses suffered by those who followed him. 68 346 1378

Abilities & Skills

Chaos Magic

Wisdom Shield possesses the exceedingly rare Chaos-element affinity.

  • Chaos Magic obscures his true strength from outside observation. 1087
  • His unusual talent, combined with his family’s Shadow Demon history, made him a long-term Church target. 1105 1106
  • His Legendary advancement produced a five-colored-and-black Dao Fruit within his Consciousness Body. 1381

Space, Elemental, and Forbidden Magic

Wisdom Shield combines rapid spellcasting with technical analysis.

  • Uses instant Space Magic to evade lethal attacks. 1106
  • Created Earth-and-Wind dust storms to expose otherwise invisible laser attacks. 1107
  • Used water vapor to scatter and refract light-based attacks before identifying their wavelength. 1107
  • Created a specialized ice mirror that absorbed and reflected Kurks’s high-energy light. 1107
  • Prepared a five-element runic Forbidden Spell during his duel with Kurks. 1107

Political and Economic Strategy

Wisdom Shield developed from a vulnerable territorial lord into a national leader by treating wealth, law, and reputation as political weapons.

  • Won bureaucratic goodwill by reporting the Hui Dun incident through formal administrative channels, establishing a precedent for centralized criminal prosecution. 74
  • Used Huidun’s exchange, bank, vouchers, and commercial reports to align himself with Moss XIII’s domestic-development policy. 306 307
  • Recognized that a blockade of Huidun would damage competition, create monopolies, and ultimately destabilize the economy rather than merely inconvenience merchants. 306
  • Supported real-estate regulation to prevent speculation from leaving workers unable to afford housing. 307
  • Planned economic sanctions against neighboring states after Moss’s industrial economy surpassed surrounding markets. 852

Intelligence and Counterintelligence

Wisdom Shield built The Shadows into Moss’s principal intelligence network.

  • Funded the organization for years through expanded treasury income and his own wealth while maintaining a personally frugal lifestyle. 864 865
  • Ordered The Shadows to eliminate foreign infiltrators discreetly while using a public Wanted Order to reinforce the enemy’s mistaken assumptions. 864
  • Intended to exploit foreign powers’ false belief that Moss’s firearms and cannons depended on magical nodes. 864

Governance and Military Development

Wisdom Shield directs the administrative and material systems behind Moss’s modernization.

  • Funded civilian technology, infrastructure, personnel, and research while requiring feasibility studies and clear timetables for dangerous projects. 848
  • Authorized the first Magic-Energy Cannon test, which obliterated a distant hill. 848
  • Ordered production of thermobaric bombs as a countermeasure against threats beyond conventional military understanding. 850
  • Oversaw a reorganized army of 300,000 soldiers equipped with more than 100,000 large-caliber artillery pieces. 852
  • Used his authority over the Empire’s Fortune Method to protect Chen Cheng’s location from political pressure. 1400

Equipment & Strategic Assets

  • Sword of Kings — Drawn instinctively when Chen Cheng appeared unexpectedly; its backlash was later removed by Chen Cheng. 1410
  • Legacy Exchange Platform half-token — Grants administrative authority over the platform when paired with Chen Cheng’s matching half. 865

  • Moss XIII — Father and King of Moss. Moss XIII gradually recognized Wisdom Shield as his only qualified successor and ultimately supported his preparations for the Grand Council. 74 344 852 853
  • Princess Fipsa — Mother and political patron. She promoted his heroic reputation, managed disaster-relief appropriations, and tested his political judgment through marriage proposals. 177 187 345
  • Torey — Loyal knight and later director of The Shadows. Wisdom Shield arranged a costly prosthetic arm for him, earning Torey’s oath of lifelong service. 68 864
  • Xiaodun — Military ally and companion whose connection to Marquis Solo gave Wisdom Shield a potential bridge to the kingdom’s strongest military faction. 346 865
  • Blustro — Merchant partner responsible for major commercial projects, academy logistics, and economic reporting for Huidun’s exchange. 67 306 307

  • Melinda — Once considered for marriage; Wisdom Shield and Adolf effectively set the arrangement aside. 306 345 346

Story Role / Major Arcs

Rise of Huidun

  • After the alchemist crisis ruined Huidun’s finances, Wisdom Shield abandoned his attempt to glorify his report and instead followed Chen Cheng’s strategy of distributing credit, reporting losses, and seeking reconstruction support. 51 52
  • He welcomed the Eighth Regiment with Magic Gemstones worth more than 100,000 Gold Coins, treating the gifts as a long-term investment in military goodwill. 67
  • Moss XIII granted him pioneering rights in Nanmu Forest, giving him a legitimate basis to build an independent territorial power base despite the severe threat posed by nearby Platinum Rank Magic Beasts. 74

Succession Struggle and Blockade

  • His survival of the Calamity Beast Tide and the alchemist crisis transformed him into a celebrated figure in the Royal Capital. 177
  • His brothers came to regard him as a dangerous succession rival and organized a blockade intended to isolate Huidun, restrict trade and travel, and force the territory into collapse. 187 188
  • Wisdom Shield countered the blockade politically by documenting its harm to national economic policy and using Huidun’s commercial progress as evidence before the court. 306

Crown Prince and National Modernization

  • As Crown Prince, Wisdom Shield expanded Moss’s economic reach, research institutions, industrial capacity, and military technology while Moss XIII’s health declined. 848 852
  • He built the Knowledge Inheritance Exchange Platform into a source of diplomatic leverage with the Adventurer’s Guild, Academy Alliance, and Elves. 852 865
  • He prepared Moss for conflict through political alliances, economic sanctions, intelligence operations, artillery, and advanced weapons rather than relying on a single military advantage. 852 864

Grand Council Challenge

  • After recognizing Chen Cheng’s disguise at the Grand Council, Wisdom Shield publicly offered to abandon his identity as Crown Prince and challenged the Church, deliberately drawing its scrutiny away from Chen Cheng. 1105
  • He provoked Muse into a politically unavoidable duel, then faced Kurks’s scientifically enhanced light-based magic with Space Magic, elemental manipulation, and optical countermeasures. 1106 1107

Imperial Chancellor

  • After the Empire’s formation, Wisdom Shield became Chancellor and assumed responsibility for the imperial government while Chen Cheng remained its nominal highest leader. 1378 1400
  • He authorized extreme military action to protect Chen Cheng, including the unauthorized launch of fifteen nuclear weapons, then accepted Chen Cheng’s reprimand and concealed the incident as a sanctioned experiment. 1378
  • He repeatedly used his final veto to block the Supreme Council’s inquiry into the missing Emperor, risking impeachment to preserve Chen Cheng’s political image and safety. 1410
