Background / History

Guardian of the imperial heir

Following the fall of the Thornflower Empire, Samlet escaped into the wilderness with the infant Chen Cheng while powerful enemies pursued them. He fought off pursuers, tamed a Cloud Leopard, and used its milk to keep Chen Cheng fed during their flight. 2

After months on the run, Samlet chose to settle in an unnamed forest rather than return to Hematite Mountain. He built a house, accepted Chen Cheng's inexplicable knowledge and ability to speak, and raised him across remote forests and mountain ranges for roughly a decade. 4

Samlet trained Chen Cheng for survival, fed him fierce-beast flesh that strengthened his body, and taught him concealment techniques such as Bone Shrinking. Chen Cheng's physique eventually became comparable to that of an ordinary Bronze-level warrior despite his youth. 4 318

Chen Cheng used the Divine Sword to formally dissolve Samlet's subordinate bond and grant him freedom. Samlet nevertheless remained devoted to the imperial line and wished to restore the Thornflower Empire. 4

Search for restoration

Believing that Chen Cheng lacked the ambition to reclaim the throne, Samlet left him to travel to the City of Sin and gather an army from those still loyal to the Empire. Their parting was emotional; Samlet believed he had failed to instill the duty of restoration in Chen Cheng. 5

In the City of Sin, Samlet forced powerful figures to choose between submission and death in the Emperor's name. He sought to subdue Demigods and other major powers both to secure forces for Chen Cheng and to pursue opportunities that could strengthen him further. 100 133

He encountered She Li, recognized his potential, forged him weapons and armor, and assigned him to protect Chen Cheng. Samlet ultimately sent She Li away from the City of Sin when another Demigod, Old Man Huang, began pursuing him. 133 135

Moonlight Forest and reunion

After being badly injured during turmoil involving outer-realm demons, Samlet was transported across world barriers to Moonlight Forest by the Moon God. The crossing left him severely injured, and he concealed his identity while avoiding Elf patrols, uncertain whether the Elves still honored their old pact with the Empire. 564 567

Fisili captured him with a vine net, but Samlet escaped and repeatedly outmaneuvered her. Elf Elders later identified him as the Hall Master and questioned whether Chen Cheng had also come to fulfill the Empire's promise to their race. 565 567

When Chen Cheng arrived in Moonlight Forest, Samlet publicly knelt before him as Emperor. Their private reunion confirmed that Samlet was the one person with whom Chen Cheng could abandon the caution imposed by his hidden identity. 612

Samlet struggled with Chen Cheng's changed outlook: Chen Cheng wanted to determine whether the Empire was still needed before committing to restoration, while Samlet had spent centuries preserving that goal. He ultimately accepted that Chen Cheng had grown and deserved to know dangerous truths previously withheld from him. 615 640

Later service

Samlet continued to protect and advise Chen Cheng in Moonlight Forest. He supported Chen Cheng's artifact projects, taught him body-tempering principles, and revealed that high-level magical-beast essence had been sealed in Chen Cheng's body to strengthen him over time. 625 668

During the forging of Chen Cheng's Set Equipment, Samlet confronted the heavenly-punishment lightning alone with the God-Demon Disintegration Great Art. The exertion required him to expel essence blood and left him with a severe Dao injury, which the World Tree later helped heal. 683 685

Appearance

Samlet is a burly human warrior who is often seen dressed for survival rather than ceremony. During his time in Moonlight Forest, he wore leather armor made from magical-beast hides; when reunited with Chen Cheng, he still wore the animal skins from his earlier travels. 3 564 612
